I've been kicking around the notion of adding another 9mm to the stable something that might be carried on occasion.

I haven't been keeping up with what manufacturers have going on in the full sized service pistol category, who makes or made the slimmest 15+ capacity 9mm?

What do you mean by slimmest?? Just the grip or the widest point on the pistol?

As far as grip I believe the Walther PPQ would be among the slimmest double stack.

The ruger sr9 has a crazy slim grip. The Walther PPS is prized as a ccw because it is so slim

You guys are just naming your favorite 9mm's. Some of the guns mentioned are wider than the glock I carry now

Now that bdm on the other hand looks promising!!!!

Neither of the ones I mentioned are. The BDM has long been considered the thinnest double stack 9mm service pistol made. The BHP isn't far behind.

Width comparison

Walther PPQ 1.30 in (34.0 mm)
Ruger SR9 1.27 in (32.3 mm)
Walther PPS 1.10 in (27.0 mm)
Browning BDM 1.06 in (26.0 mm)
Kel-Tec P11 1.00 in (25.0 mm)

Diamondback DB9 is the worlds smallest 9mm pistol. It's supposedly made by people who were working for Nasa, and some people from Kel-Tec. It's a very high quality weapon.

Definately worth looking at.

I don't care who made it. Its not a full sized pistol with a 15rd capacity

A glock 17 specs at 1.18" but I think that's at the slide. IIRC you get right at 1.2" if you put calipers across the top of the frame by the thumb rest.

A Browning hi-power is almost an inch and a half ( 1.5" ) across the grips by the specs I can find.

oops, I read your post wrong....

I recommend the FNX 9 in that case. I don't know if it's the slimmest, but it's certainly one of the best.

Cz 75B with cocobolo grips or even thinner with aluminium grips. A real double stack :)

Cheers

Lets try to get back to the OP'rs ACTUAL questions. There are only two.

What is the slimmest double stack nine.

Note.... it says "doube stack".

.....in the full sized service pistol category, who makes or made the slimmest 15+ capacity 9mm?

Note.... it says "full size" & "15+ capacity".

Try the second gen Sig P250. The subcompact is actually thinner than the compact and full size models, but still can accept the larger mags. It looks wide, but when you hold it, it is much more compact than it looks. If 15 round standard capacity is a must, you'll be hard pressed to do better than the Glock 19. It really is one of the most size efficient pistols out there.

Even tho it looks bulky, when you actually pull the calipers out, the 9mm framed Glocks are actually within a 10th of an inch as thin as most other polymer guns.

I agree. Public perception is that glocks are fat chunky guns. But when compared to other polymer and steel automatics they're actually amongst the slimmest. Slimmer even than some of the supposedly skinny options offered up here.

By the spec sheets, that is no doubt true. However, the widest point on a Glock is pretty much the same measurement as the narrowest point on the same pistol. Practically nobody goes into a gun store and handles a G17, M&P 9, XD 9, or SR9 and comes away saying "boy that Glock feels so much thinner than the rest of these pistols". Most will feel the others are all thinner than the Glock. A Beretta 92FS will most likely feel thicker than a Glock 17, but not most of the polymer competition.

Since the Kel-tec isn't a full size pistol holding 15 rounds, I think it's disqualified. Walther PPS is a single stack holding a whopping 7 rounds, last I checked.
So Browning BDM, it is, so far. But it's not in production anymore, is it?
So talking currently manufactured guns, could it actually be the Glock????

If we're talking something subjective as how thin a gun feels, then this thread is going to be really, really long. Get the popcorn.

Try the EAA witness polymer, it's even thinner than the hi power and the cz75. I have super small hands so I keep a log of which pistols fit, of the 4 or 5 double stacks I can actually hold the witness was the smallest and most comfortable grip.
