what is the target market of the new FN hi-power?

I read the comment about the SA-35 being made from Turkish parts and assembled in the USA. Tell me it isn't so!

There are many signs which point to this being true. My gut is that the frames, slides and barrels are all coming from Tisas and then SA is assembling them and declaring them made in the USA.

To include the fact that the initial advertisements for both the SAI and EAA Hi Powers were identical

These are being marketed to old farts with disposable income and a longing for the good old days. SA will get the guys on fixed incomes and FN will get the guys living off their portfolios.

Am 42, make a really great wage, own pistols with 3k+ invested and am not buying that FN. I'll get the SA.

Me?

I've kinda wanted a HP for decades but the way my hand is shaped the original eats the web of my hand.

I was pretty interested in the SA35, but after having seen some of the online reviews the pistol needs work to smooth out burrs and sharp edges (necessitating a refinish) to be comfortable and reliable to shoot. That's going to cost money and take time. Plus I am stuck with the sights as they are on the SA35 as SA decided to use proprietary dovetails that matches nothing else.

Or I can get a new FN that's already ready already, needs no work to be shootable*, and has sights that can be swapped and use a existing profile. I pay more up front but I get a pistol I can take out of the box and run rounds through.

BSW

*I already know I'm going to flip the mag release to the right side so I can reach it with my index finger. Curse of short thumbs.

I have been reading of Texas Rangers and other LE carrying Staccatos now that they have changed their name and shifted emphasis from competition to duty and defense.
So maybe there is a general move to rehabilitate the single action automatic after years of DA/SA and then striker fired plastic.

In my opinion, if they would have come out 6 months ago with exactly what SAI did -a slightly tweaked design based on the original classic- it would have been a HUGE success, and the $1,300 per unit would have had people crawling over each other to pay it.

I share your opinion but with this caveat: I wouldn't crawl over anybody to pay $1,300.00 for a pistol I've always "kind have" wanted but never would pay the going rate for. I am the target market Springfield aimed for: a "classic" Hi Power/High Power pistol, with some ergonomic improvements and, especially, the reported $700.00 price tag. I might pay $100.00 more for one made from s/s...might.

I wish FN well in their latest endeavor but I am a very long way from the market they should target.

Good shot, that one hit me dead center, ouch! I be one of dem ole farts on a fixed income.

I am interested because Springfield Armory has improved the sights, and I believe the pistol will be tight. I don't remember handling an original FN Highpower, but I handled copies, and they all rattled. I want something that will be accurate. And, the SA-35 front sight is in a dovetail, and I like that, and the rear is more advanced than military rear sights.

I do not care one whit for striker fired pistols, or the DAO only types. I like hammers, I want to be able to decock the pistol and put the hammer down. I don't like those pistols that will accidentally fire if a finger, shirt tail, or piece of a holster gets into the trigger guard.

And, this thing is all metal. Tupperware pistols, don't like them. I use tupperware to cook, not to shoot.

I did finally find somebody mention the trigger on the FN bhp. "fantastic 4-6lb trigger" mentioned 42 seconds in

personally, I have a different pull weight in mind when I think of fantastic, but to each their own, and I haven't felt it. it might be a marvelous crisp 4-6 lbs. (or not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

I'm picturing a meeting where one guy keeps saying "I know this one will sell -- I can feel it in my bones ...
Well, the question there was that before or after they fronted it to the "C Suite."

Somebody went and commissioned at least one product survey. They may have haunted an online forum or two.

And then somebody tallied up the results, and they said, well, we aren't going to make any FG-42 or STG-44, and the Mateba patents are still in force, so, what's left? Has Engineering had any improvement on a phased plasma rifle yet? Then, the Product Development people went to Manufacturing and said, "How much to make a GP-35?"

Since there are several of these afoot, I suspect the marketing was external, and various firms brought the info in and looked at it several times.
