What kind of guns do the bad guys carry?

I inspected all the gun before I fire them. If they are unsafe to fire, I note that on the evidence bag, pack them back up and return them to evidence.

As impossible as I know it is, those would be the firearms that get sold back. Thug wannabe will think twice about crime if he has a weapon blow up in his hand because it wasn't safe to fire.

Different time, different context, but there were some efforts in Vietnam to contaminate the Enemy's ammo supply with 'exciting' cartridges. A ChiCom 7.62 round, with plastic ilo of propellant will demolish a ChiCom AK quite reliably.

That would work much better today. When we did weapon cache hauls we found headstamps from many many different countries. Even found some American Federal and Winchester ammo. Vast majority was Chinese.

Other nice stuff is usually quickly recovered stolen....if it is gone for a while you don't want it back.
Yeah, that's a fact.
I ran across a rifle that had been stolen from me in the mountains of Southern Oregon in 1974 (a Golden State Arms Santa Fe Model 1949 / MAS-36) in a South Texas pawn shop. I could recognize it by a couple of my rather inept repairs,
That poor gun was beat to death, even though the ammo for it was pretty much unavailable.
I wonder what it would have looked like if it could have been easily fired!

A lot of people think that the criminals still carry cheap guns, but this is far from the truth.
...

Here is a list of the Evidence guns I have test fired this year. And yes, that's less then two months.

Not a lot of wheelgun shooters.
Noticed not a single Python or Annaconda.

You may have skipped over a few replies. I enter evidence guns and cartridge cases from crime scenes into the NIBIN system. Revolvers don’t get entered because you will hardly ever get cartridge cases from a revolver left at a crime scene.

I searched our report system and found the report where it was stolen two months before but the SN# was nuknown. I personally contacted the General and he was able to get his gun back about a year latter once the court case was done.

I wish the DA in the next county over was as fast. I had a G19 stolen in October 2013 and recovered from some drug dealers in the next town south less than 30 days later. I'm on a first name basis with the corporal in charge of their evidence room. I was initially told go call back about every month. After a while I started calling every 6 months. For the last 2 years I just call in January. Last month he contacted the DA before getting back to me and said he had no idea when it would go to trial.

I have quite a few friends locally in both LE and who work as investigators for the DA. They have all told me that if it had been recovered in this county they would have taken a photo of it for the trial and given it back to me 5 years ago.

They carry what the anti's want to take away from pro's. Not fair if we have a semi even chance.

??? I don’t agree with the evidence rooms holding property that is lawfully returnable, but I don’t think this is anti-gun, it’s lazy cops and/or DAs.

A while back, on one of the forums, somebody doing this in a small city or county kept records,
in their case, guns confiscated from criminals were broken, unloaded, or had the wrong ammo
in over 50% of the cases, IIRC.
Do you have any contact with non functional weapons ?
Because it would seem like your area has much better prepared bad guys, from the OP.

Where there are policies that all guns not claimed by owners are destroyed, I wonder if anyone has tracked types and conditions to make the agency aware of how much money is lost through this process? Until that happens, it doesn't seem possible to track the cost of such policies versus the benefit, if any.

In a larger city guns are a lot easier to get. In a small town you may only have one or two places that sell guns.
There is also what are called street guns. These are guns that have been used in a shooting. Some bad guys don’t want to hang on to a gun that they have used so, they Lyell it on the street. A Glock in good shape will only bring about $250 on the street.

Gunny, show us a picture of the drugs. With enough money to buy 16 guns it must have been a considerable haul. One kilo of white powder and 10 keys of marijuana maybe??? ( The drugs are probably locked away in the property room?) How many people did the crew capture?
Good work!!! and now your work is cut out for you. Test firing all those guns and making scientific evidence records is gonna take you till the middle of tax season. :)

I was told that they got a kelo of meth and heroin.
I don't see much of the drugs, just firearms that are picked up.
I do have about 20 more guns to add to the list of guns.

Does it really matter? When a person carries a weapon for evil intent it doesn't matter what that weapon is.

I am going to repeat a sentiment I heard from a certain unnamed idiot that shall remain my brother changing the name to protect the stupid. I've known "some" that if they had a heavy machine gun mounted in the back of their pickup I would wave at them and shake my head then there are "some" that make me nervous when they pick up a butter knife.

There was a law that said if firearms were involved that the penalty was increased, does that apply in this cercumstance? ...
How are all these firearms getting into the hands of thugs and felons?
