Whether you hunt with a modern high power rifle, muzzle loaders, handguns, or old breechloaders, what kind of sights is your preference?
open iron sights?
peep sight?.
mounted on reciever or tang?

scopes, what power?
Varables power scopes, what power do you generally carry it on?
what cross hair style?

For me I've been using open iron sights as long as my eyeballs hold out. I do use a modern Leica range finder, and if I have time cross sticks.

depends on what gun i take with me that day most have open sights only have one with a scope.

I'll occassionally use a scope if I carry the M340 Savage, but mostly it'll be the Lyman #2 tang sight on my old Winchester .30-30 I've bragged on in so many threads.

Scope 2-7x, always keep it set on 2x.

I use iron sights once in a while but only if I'm just going to be sitting or walking in the afternoon.

I tried hunting with irons (and M1 garand) his year and with the adenaline of the hunt I forgot sight picture and all that and had to use too many rounds on a poor doe...so 2 days later I bought anothe Remington 700 synth BDL in 30-06 and a Nikon 3-9....back to what worked for me!

Regrettably, my 70-year old eyes now have trouble lining up all those iron sights and targets at the same time. But I can handle a crosshair just fine! I use a 2X scope on my Ruger .22 LR MK II for 100-yd target (3" groups), 3x9 scopes for hunting, 4x10 scope for my long range target shooting (300-500 yd, Savage 10 .308), iron sights muzzleloading, shotgun, and most pistol.:D

I've always hunted with bolt-action rifles. Once I'd learned about scopes, I never looked back.

Very little of my hunting has been of the sort where iron sights could in any way have been better. Generally, I've been in open country where long shots were quite probable--and not always in good light.

I've hunted with irons on my revolvers and on my smoke pole, but my modern rifles have scopes. I have a ghost ring aperture on my .lever action .357 magnum, but I've only ever taken one deer with that gun.

My scopes are all duplex reticule....

7 mag....3x9x44
.257 Roberts...4x12x40 adjustable objective
.308.... 2x10x40
SKS... 3x9x40 lighted reticule

The SKS is set up for night hunting hogs and has a spotlight on the scope. Be nice to be able to put night vision on it, but this is "poor man's night vision." I ain't spending a grand on 3rd generation night vision.

I have scoped rifles, but I prefer my peep sighted guns. I even have peeps on my MKII 10" bull. I'll one day have to go to glass on everything, but as for now, all my 100 yard type guns are iron sighted...
