What makes a $1000 scope better than a $500 scope???

Who is George Carlin? Vanity is, "my scope is brighter than yours." If you want a $1000.00 scope go for it. Are we really talking about $1000.00 scopes or the more expensive high end of high end scopes? Buy used is what it's about. That's where my 8x Austrian binoculars come from in a trade involving a set of B&L 7x50 WW2 Marine Corp Binoculars.

Is it vanity, or just a fact? If it is just a fact should people not say it for fear someone will call them vane. Can't share info like that. I think readers can tell the difference.

My cataracts were so bad I could not use iron sights. I got mine fixed to the point of not needing glasses generally. Also, I have repeated several times that are my needs. By all means get your gear to meet you needs. My needs are simple and it is not necessary to get into the horsepower race. I have traded into higher priced scopes. These scope are nice but overkill for my needs. Why spend the money unless these things come this way under very favorable conditions. If possible, I encourage getting cataracts removed. No twilight shooting done here.

Addendum: I stand corrected since there is no Kool-aid drinking or vanity (ego) issues ever involved in buying high-end scopes.

Just got back from Sportman's Warehouse. From my visit should the topic be,"What makes a $2000.00 scope better than a $1000.00 scope."

When it comes to long range scopes and that price difference it was clarity for the ones I looked through a couple of weekends ago. Everyone there said the near 2K scope was much clearer than the around 1K scopes there.

When you double the price in scopes, you will get a better scope, not much guesswork there. Whether it is $150/$300, $500/$1000, 1K vs 2K........

Only the buyer can decide if it is worth it to them, whether it is more clarity, more features, better tracking, etc., etc.
