I want this as a started New Thread.

Starting the question I asked, above! And adding the why.

A purpose, I think is the first question you should ask yourself.

Once you dress, and travel anywhere, out of your home, you are open to any danger, or risk, any one has been subject to, in these United States, ever!

If these risks are out there, they can be duplicated.

So read up, on the shootings, attacks, risks that can be researched.
And place yourself, and your handgun, on that spot.
So? You do not have time to do that, or the inclination.

I once read a wee joke, you can only have to much ammunition, if you are drowning, or on fire! True I suppose.

As I am retired for quite a while, let us start with retired but still mobile, as a first group.

I can, and do, carry a fairly large, but not to heavy, Glock 19. Takes 15 rounds in the magazine, one in the breach, 16 total.
A spare G17 magazine (more for malfunctions that for an extended gun fight, but it could happen) next to the spare mag, on the opposite side to the 4 o'clock positioned pistol. Also next to that spare mag. An expensive LED flash light.

The Kydex holster is tight, secure, and very fast. High neck Tee shirt keeps the pistol from the skin, but the Glock is not too abrasive either.

What I call a Florida shirt, hides it well. Ammunition for the last few years, Ranger T Winchester 147g HP. Very accurate. Medium recoil, goes deep.

Modifications? TruGlo night sights/polished internals, 4 or 5lb release.
Glock factory extended slide release (they don't call it that!) the mag release on the Gen 4, dug into my second finger, cut that corner off.

If you look at the Police shootings over the last few years, bursts of 4 and 5 rounds are common, if that gives you a better chance of survival, in a confrontation. We should maybe copy that? That would leave you with 5 or 6 rounds left? And that is why you carry 16. I have never had a misfire of any nature with either one of my two carry Glock 19s, I only use factory ammunition.

I feel I have covered all bases, to the best of my ability, with out going wild.

Glock 19 with an LCP backup. Depending on clothing, I might just go with the LCP. I feel that is still superior to the snubbie that I used to carry.

The Glock 19 has a raven concealment OWB holster. In Oklahoma, open carry is legal so I don't have to worry if it prints or if my shirt blows up or something. There's no legal requirement to keep it deeply concealed anymore, so I just make sure that a bad guy wouldn't notice it first glance.

The LCP I just throw in my pocket. I realize that's not kosher with everyone, but I feel very comfortable with it. I did the same thing with the snubbie before. I would not do this with a Glock 42, though.

As of yet, I don't carry any spare mags. Like I said, I'm already way ahead of where I was with the snubbie, which had 5 shots. With recent events, however, I'm planning on going ahead and getting a dual mag carrier from raven.

Regarding reloads, though, you have to be very fast to make it work in the average gunfight. Most gunfights are at less than ten feet, and it's pretty much a competition to see who can pull the trigger the fastest and still make good hits. To make a reload count, you would have to have something for cover and be super fast about it. Otherwise, you might be better off just rushing the person or trying to run. For the weekend warrior, the fastest reload is another gun, hence the LCP. Like I said, though, recent events introduce a whole new dynamic into what kinds of gunfights a person is likely to get into these days. I suspect we will soon see a day when an organized terror attack is just as likely for the average person in middle America as a run of the mill mugging.

Red Wind,

Looking down that barrel? Might give some one religion!

grampajack, Can not fault your thinking.

Work- Glock 17. EDC- Glock 19C. Summer- Glock 43. Hunting, other outdoor activities- Glock 23, Glock 21 in bear country. HD- Glock 17, Glock 19 x 3. 3 gun- Glock 34.
Why? They are a great gun for the $, it makes sense to stick with 1 design IMO.

Allot depends where I'm going. For EDC it's usually my Sig P938, When I go on a road trip and not familiar the location or area I usually have my Sig P938 on and my G27 close by. I've been to Alaska twice. The first time I carried my G-30 the 2nd time I carried my Ruger Alaskan 454. Just for a quick trip to go get gas or something I'll slip something light in my pocket.
I guess it's what I feel like carrying on that particular day.

At the moment a G42 with the laser max guide rod laser and a spare mag in my pocket.

My main EDC are the LCR 357 and the kahr CW9 depending on mood and clothing, but both are easy to hide. The LCR I carry Winchester 145 silver tips with a speed stripe of six extra rounds. The kahr I have the original black talons, 147 gr subsonic and then an extra mag with the same or Cor-Bon 115's. I feel very comfortable with these two pistols if I should ever need to pull them. If I need a larger capacity I'll take my sig 228.

One thing I'm trying to focus on is picking something and sticking to it. I've been bad about changing carry pieces like I do clothes, so my goal now is to pick something, train hard with it, and stick to it regardless of whether it's convenient or not. I may make slight alterations depending on the situation, like carrying spare mags or just going with my backup if absolutely necessary, but I've made a concerted effort to stick to those two guns for the foreseeable future.

I picked the Glock 19 because it's not the flavor of the month, so it's not going anywhere. There will always be accessories for it, and I will always be able to find a variety of holsters that fit all those accessories. That way if I want a tac light, laser, RMR, suppressor sights, a threaded barrel, and a kitchen sink, then I can still find a quality holster to fit all that crap. I've found it's easy to find a holster for most guns, but throw a tac light into the mix and your options dwindle fast or vanish altogether. That's why I have a Glock 19 instead of a Sphinx SPD.

Another thing I like about the Glock is I can always replace it or upgrade to a newer model without any retraining needed. So for example, the gen 5 is probably about to come out, and I'll be able to upgrade to that if I want and my mind won't know the difference. And neither will my holster more than likely.

I chose the LCP because of its size and reputation for reliability. I can't make any excuses not to carry it. It will even fit in a pair of swim trunks if it came to that, so there's literally zero reason that I would ever have to leave it behind. However, I'm thinking of switching to something else because my LCP doesn't like hollow points, and I would like to be able to switch to the lehigh defense rounds.

As for the Glock 19, I plan to switch to Federal HST 124 gr. I'm currently using Hornady Critical Defense because I bought it during the scare and that's all they had.

It definitely can be quite educational! :D Being a US Army Medic, I carried the Colt 1911 for 6 years. So I have acquired quite an affinity for the .45ACP cartridge. I could still dismantle and reassemble the Colt blindfolded after 45 years. :what:

Almost a love affair. ;)

For EDC I switch off between a Kahr CM9 with a spare mag or a S&W Model 638 with two Bianchi Speed Strips. Holsters for both are DeSantis SOF-TUCKs.

Now days, as in he past, my Sig P238 is always with me, 7 + 1. It's my 24/7 gun, either in my pocket or within arms reach, 24/7!

If I carry one of the other two, that I carry at times, I will then have two guns on me. As I stated, the Sig P238 is always with me. Now and again, I carry my Springfield 1911 .45acp Commander, 8 + 1. I always have 2 spare mags for my Sig on me and when I carry the 1911, I also have 2 spare mags for it. The last gun that I carry, more & more lately, is my Charter Arms Pitbull .45acp revolver, 5 shot. When I carry the Pitbull, I also carry my 2 spare 1911 mags, which gives me 16 rounds of spare ammo for the Pitbull.

Why? The Sig is very small, super reliable & accurate - .380 Buffalo Bore 105gn Cast bullets, offer deep penetration.
Springfield 1911 .45acp Commander - Reasonably small, super reliable, accurate and big bullets.
Charter Pitbull 5 shot .45acp - Reasonably small, easy to conceal, reliable & accurate - Again, Big Bullets.

To and from work (no-carry EMS profession): Kel-Tec P32, no backup.

All other waking/dressed hours: Kel-Tec PF9, usually backed by the above P32 or a NAA mini.

For over 30 years my daily carry gun has been a .44 Spl. revolver, first a Charter Arms Bulldog and then a S&W 696. They are easy to carry, easy to control and do serious damage .

My main carry now has become my LCP. Depending what I'm doing that can change so I also depend on a Glock 27 and a Smith Model 36. ;)

As I'm still waiting on my CHP to get here, can I share what I PLAN on carrying? :)

Colder months will be my Canik TP9 in a Clinger IWB kydex with 18+1 loaded and a 20rd second mag.

Warmer months will be my new Taurus 709 Slim IF it is deemed reliable. Assuming it is, it will also get a Clinger IWB holster and I haven't decided if I'll carry two factory 7rd mags with extensions or get two 10rd mags and be done with it.

Anyhoo there it is...

LC9S with the 9 round magazine. 10 rounds of the Ruger ARX +P ammo.

Thin. Light. Conceals well with a "Florida" shirt.

Before that was the SR9C but the difference in weight between the 10 round SR9C and the 9 round LC9S is, to me, astounding.

Glock 19 everyday while at work. I keep a G17+2 mag close by for reload. The 19 is a reliable and cheap carry. I work in an environment that is dirty and chemically caustic so the glock is something I wouldn't mind trashing.

Out of work it is a P229SAS with a RMR. MecGar 18 for a reload.

P938 when I travel light.

Glock 26, undercut the trigger guard and added night sights. +2 OEM magazine. Carry two magazines on the belt. Didn't normally do this but the times seem to be getting rougher. Alien Gear holster.
