This is what winds up in my back pocket more often than any other (I'm usually in my workshop.) It's a S&W .32 Double Action (4th Model) with a shortened barrel, new front sight and custom ergonomic grip. Power is at least comparable to a .22-.25ACP pocket-gun and it's no harder to hide than most of them... but it's way cooler. Not to mention that the double-action pull is smooth as silk... Next most common would be an all-steel j-frame. If I'm hanging out at my friend's store I've been known to pack my 1911. Why yes, I am a dinosaur! Why do you ask?

Hi...
Springfield Armory 1911A1 .45ACP or a Colt Combat Commander in .45ACP
Once in a while, I carry a Taurus .44Spl 5-shot revolver.
When hiking or hunting could be anyone of a couple dozen revolvers in calibers ranging from .357 through .44Mag depending on where I am what I am hunting and my mood at the time.

The reason I carry my Makarov PM (see avatar for picture) is because of it's flawless reliability, excellent accuracy, extreme rugedness, decent capacity, fast follow up shots, good power with modern high performance JHP loads, and I love to shoot it so much I take it to the range almost weekly so I get plenty of practice with it.

Maybe not everyone's choice, but I think nine rounds of accurate and extremely reliable (and safe to carry) firepower that surges past any .380 ACP ballistics in a relatively lightweight and immenently shootable yet compact and thin gun designed to be dependable in all conditions and that served as the primary sidearm of the worlds largest government for half a century and even in active duty military and police service today is enough for me. :)

in California where practical , a Shield .40 . It has all Ca. bells and whistles, it is registered to me, I have never been caught for any offense and if I lose it now that I have no CCW it will not be the end of the world and the fine is survivable ($800 citable first offense ticket if no other crime involved) . I am going on 71 years of age.

A G-19 with 15+1 and two 15 round reloads. I have carried this and shot it for the last 8 years including 5 Gunfighting courses and 6 Alumni Shoots. A retired police chief told me a couple of years ago, "Get one Gun and get very good with it". Do not do the gun of the season or caliber of the month.

What you carry may depend a lot on where you live. I'm in a small town with a population of around 4000, surrounded by the Allegheny National Forest. There has been 1 murder here in the past 40 years. Cant remember ever hearing of a "Home Invasion" type crime or a bank robbery in town. In spite of the relative safety I have a loaded gun on the nightstand and carry either an LCP or J frame 38 special in my pocket even when in my house. If I'm dressed, I'm packin'. When venturing forth to the nearest place big enough for a Walmart or Mcdonalds which is a 25 mile trip I will often carry my 9mm Shield or SP101 in 357 magnum.
During hunting season it is common to see someone walking down main street carrying a rifle or shotgun

Even though I don't feel well armed with a J frame only, My Model 640 get carried with me more often than not. I know it's not the best way to do things, BUT. When the weather cools down or if I really feel the need I carry one of my 2 1/2" round butt K frames. Those feel like a real gun in my hand.

It's interesting that 90+% of the retired cops, I know, feel the same way and generally do about the same.

I trained for quite a while with a Sig P229 in .40 S&W. But my love of 1911's and 10mm had me wanting that in a size similar to the Sig.

So, I had a 1911 Commander length custom made in 10mm. Since I specified its build, it's perfect for me as my EDC.

I'm digging that. A lot.

Nice build, Harry. :)

Thank you.

(The starting out with a government sized 1911 was a California thing.)

Glock 33 in an El Paso Saddlery Summer Cruiser.
Off side, I carry one mag for the Glock.
Kahr P380 as a back up in a Galco pocket holster. The little pistol disappears in a pair of cargo shorts.

98% of the time it's a S&W 1911 PD.

Commander sized alloy frame .45 ACP with factory laser grips.

Two spare mags loaded with Federal HST.

2% of the time Sig P938 with Crimson Trace grip, two extra mags, loaded with Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel.

Don't carry all the time but when I do it's usually the Glock 19; and once in a great while a 4" S&W 686 with some warm .38 spl. handloads with a 158 gr. SWC at about 950 FPS. Frequently when I'm out in the sticks I have the Glock in a special spot in my truck in a small zip-up soft case so if it's not on me it's close by. For the same reason I've got some jumper cables, tools, first aid kit, etc. : Just In Case.

Fantastic weapon a Glock. Fired a couple shots with one my friend recently bought in 9mm. Only thing i do not like about it and this a personal opinion, it feels like plastic. I am the proud owner of a Colt 1911 45 ACP and let me tell you when that weapon is in your hand that feeling is something you can not put into words. The metal feel just put it in a total different class. It heavy, its mean, its antique and will still kick but unlike many modern weapons. Love it to bits.
