What sidearms do the LEOs in your area carry.

Most of us still carry some form of Glock in .40. Mine is a 35, while 22s dominate with 23s right behind. There are Beretts 92Fs, a fw 3rd gen Smiths and a few M&Ps and SIGs. Other agencies are staying with Glocks by and large, mostly the 22.

I have a friend who just became a small town police chief (19 officers) who issued SIG 320s to his guys, and he's a Glock armorer. He said that they had such an array of weapons, some that desperately needed to be replaced, that it was just easier, and made everybody happy.

I believe the State Police carry a Sig 227. They seem to change often, I can remember them carrying Beretta 92s, GLOCK 22, GLOCK 21, and I think GLOCK 17.

I believe the county police carry a GLOCK in .40, but I do remember our Sheriff, now sadly deceased, carrying a S&W 29 4" on his very slender frame. It was an imposing looking revolver.

When I was serving as a Police Chaplain for the Albuquerque Police Department you would see a good number of custom 1911's, and one officer who was killed in a motor vehicle accident was still carrying a S&W Model 19 .357. Now, due to the DOJ, all holsters carry a Glock 17.

The city PD used Smith 5906's for over 20 years. The chief said he'd never approve a Glock, but about 5 years ago Glock was the only thing they tested that passed so they now carry G17's. County PD and Sheriff deputies carry G22's but the SO is in the process of transitioning to G17's. Fish and Game was using G22's last time I looked. GA State Patrol has been all over the place in recent years. Smith 4506 to G22 to G37 to G17 currently.

The city has issued handguns as far back as I can remember, Smith 66 and 65's loaded with +P+ 38 loads that basically duplicated 357 mag. But for political reasons couldn't carry 357 mag. The county and Sheriff's dept officers had to buy their own and they let officers carry anything they could qualify with until just a few years ago. I used to see quite an assortment. Most carried Smith 686 or 66 revolvers, but you saw some Smith 29's BHP's, and 1911's too.

Glocks for everybody here as well. From what I have heard from discussions with local LEO at my range most departments started with 9 mm, switched to 40 S&W & now are returning to 9 mm.

Glocks, S&W, Sigs 9 40 45 duty use only, 380 or 38 for back up only. Buy your own, they supply the duty gear

Massachusetts State Police carry the S&W M&P 45. Afterall Smith and Wesson is based in MAss! They probably got them for pennies on the dollar?

Being a gun guy I naturally pay attention to what the men/women in blue are carrying. In the middle GA area it seems to be G17. Glock has a strong presence in GA partly due to having a manufacturing plant in Smyrna.

Watch a lot of Live PD.

Mostly Glocks there but a few Sig seem to be options in Salinas CA (1911s are OK too) and Pasco Co. Florida. I'm too lazy to try to recall all the PDs in there I see Glocks, but it certainly most of them

I have not been close enough to a local cop in my town to ask him what he is carrying. Five years ago some guy T-Boned my car after running a stop sign. I was close enough then, but I was so shook up I forgot to ask.

Sig 220 for local LEO, provided but they have to buy the off duty gun.

The Pennsylvania State Police for a very long time carried a Beretta 96 in 40 S&W. Then the went to a Glock in 45 GAP for a short time and in 2014 bought the Sig P227 in 45 ACP.

All in my county carry Glocks.
They did carry G22s, then switched to G21s about five years ago.

Now some are switching to the new ones with the 17 size grip with the 19 size slide.

Glocks on troopers. Local city has Smith M&P .40’s. Couple local guys carry sig. I’ve seen an XD once on a girl from a smaller department.

Glock 21 but transitioning to Glock 45. I hate how they didnt skip 40 and 45 in the number scheme. Or at the very least make the G45 a .45 and the G40 a .40.
Our Troopers carry sig 226.

Deutsche Bundespolizei (German Federal Police): H&K P30, rarely SigP225 (or P6 as it is called in official police lingo)
Polizei Bayern (Bavarian State Police): H&K SFP9 as current issued sidearm, but there are still quite a number of H&K P7M8 to be seen in duty holsters.

This should be interesting to some of us.
What sidearms does you local and state law enforcement carry?
Are they issued or do they have to provide their own. . . . .
I haven't really looked into whether they're bought or issued, but I think they're issued. So, locally:
Arkansas State Police: G21
Little Rock PD: G22
Sherwood PD: G21
Jacksonville PD: Sig Sauer, I think P320s
North Little Rock: M&P, I think. Not real sure about this one

.

From all I’ve read, Glock numbered the G17 based on patents, I.e. the Glock 17 was the 17th patent the company received. Not sure if that is still the case, but they seem to keep it simple.

BTW, the G40 is a .40 caliber, but it’s a 10MM

When the St. Pete police gun club was open to us mere civilians Glock 17/19 was the pistol in all the holsters I saw. Since St. Pete elected a completely anti-gun mayor that appointed a full on anti-gun police chief the range has been off limits to all but police.
Yet the local LEOs get to shutdown WAC to practice sniper shooting a couple times a year.

I believe both my local sheriff's dept and police dept carry Glock 21's.

I did see a member of the sheriff's dept helicopter crew carrying a smaller Glock, possibly a 30
