What Sub $1K FFP scope?

Im running circles between what scope to go with.

Originally I was going with a falcon menace 4-14X44 ffp in the mil/mil configuration. Then I noticed the new weaver tactical 3-15X50, FFP no info on the turrets (mil - 1/4 moa). Then I got a look at this post over on the hide http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1191777&page=1 down around 3/4 of the way, thats some pretty sharp glass to me.

The gun is an AR that Im going to use in a DM role and possibly some paper punching out to 500 yds.

I know the 3x9 would get me out to 500 yds (might have some problems with paper at 500 yds with only x9) and no side focus (looses tactCOOL points)

The weaver has the low end x3 and high end x15 and the side focus (if even a purely ascetic thing) but no info on the turrets still. I think the glass would be good.

The falcon has everything, but Im wondering about the glass quality and tracking of adjustments.

So what do you think?

The SS will give you the best quality at your price point as long as it is on par with the fixed power SSs (particularly the 10x), from the reviews that I have read thus far it appears to be just as good (or better). Personally, I would go with this one.

Come on people...if you put other at least say what it is...

I voted SS because of the mil turrets and I have a soft spot for the SS brand (I think it's great SWFA saved the scope, stuck with it and continued to develop the new variable). If you want more magnification then go with the Weaver. I know people like the Falcon Menace but I just don't like chinese optics but that is just me.

I would prefer Jap glass over chinese and german over jap, but its kinda low on the list

I believe it is Chinese, but comparitively good Chinese.

No it's Japanese glass, fully multicoated. Not sure which manufacturer they source it from.

I'll take your word for it, I do know that the assembly is done in the UK, and have heard that the customer service is very good.

I would rank it a four (out of what I don't know ). I think it is about as good as Bushnell 3200 glass. I don't own one but that was my first impression.

If you read the snipercentral review they say that, they also claim the manufacturer claims 94% transmittance but they don't say what wavelength. And only the final assembly and QC is done in the UK whatever that means. I would be curious to see what the official "made in" sticker reads.

I have one of their 2.5x10 M9 reticle scopes with FFP and reticle illumination. It is a very nice scope.

Has mil graduated turrets, which are really quite a bit easier to use than MOA, IMO.

I'm curious to see how the SS 3-9 compares to my IOR 2.5-10x44, which can be had for $900 or so, and is a great scope with a great reticle.

I think Scott carries them at Liberty Optics, but I am not certain. P.S. IOR (at least the SFP variety) is good stuff.

no problems with the 2.5x10 ffp. the 3-18 ffp has a 10% failure rate, and i would stay away from that scope.

ior is redesigning the 2.5x10 ffp mil/mil to have a 10 mil per turn elevation turret. this should be a really nice scope at around 1k

There is one model that supposedly had some birthing problems. 2.5-10x42 or 4-14x50 IORs are hands down as rock solid a FFP scope you will find.

On the Weavers FFP scopes the info is on their website. The turrets are standard MOA. The more I read about the Super Sniper variable the more impressed I am with it and will buy one soon.

The only thing that I don't care for about it is the side focus (or rather lack thereof)...if and when they add one, I will very likely buy one too.
