I had my AR10 to the range today in order to try out the JP Recoil Eliminator muzzle brake. Well, it works. I was able to put up the best groups ever with match ammo. Besides that, it unquestionably reduces felt recoil and muzzle rise exceeding it's closest competitor, the standard JP brake.

But, the device is not handsome. It just doesn't quite seem to fit the elegant lines of my CMMG AR10. Alright, may as well come out and say it; it's ugly looking.

The only two things I'll use this rifle for is range "hunting", and maybe hog hunting some time.

So, would you ugly-up your AR10 if it was more accurate with less recoil, or stick with pretty?

Its a .308, not a .416.... Is all that recoil compensation/noise amplification really necessary? If not, switch to a smaller brake/flash hider. I would never put that big fat device on the muzzle of my AR. Its just not needed.

It is your rifle. Brakes aren't going to make it or you more accurate. I wouldn't use that brake on one of my rifles for numerous reasons, the least of which is looks, which is really bad.

It really isn't necessary for .308....I have a brake that I like on my .338 but not certain that is completely necessary either.

Your rifle your choices.

To heck with pretty, my Dpms AR10 beats up my shoulder (have had both operated on, and may be going for another on the right one), if it works for YOU, does what YOU want, then why worry about what everyone else thinks, they aren't shooting the gun, buying the ammo, or punching the paper or hogs, plus, you probally won't have to worry about people sitting on either side of you at the range. :)

Im not so sure about the brake. But I also have a CMMG 308. Can share anything more in its accuracy?
I've got the CBR rifle. I manged 2 MOA or so out of it before I re-barreled with a Rainier Arms Select. Yesterday I wrung a couple 1/2 MOA groups out of it with Hornady Match 168 grain and Norma Match 168 grain.

I don't use brakes on hunting rifles, the ones that work just make too much noise.

A suppressor on the other hand is the best of both worlds.

I don't see where that is going to do you any good hog hunting. In that scenario, it's just useless weight and a snag hazard. Get an A2-style birdcage and be done with it.

How long before you have up on the factory barrel? I hope that doesnt mean thats what's in my future.

More likely I'll use my .308 bolt rifle for hogs, that one I shoot suppressed.

I've about given up on shooting semi-autos suppressed, too much nasty blow back for my liking.

I gave it about 150 or so rounds, then Rainier Arms had a killer sale on the Select barrel. They guarantee sub-MOA so I figured it was worth taking a chance.

Well the bolt gun will likely have even more felt recoil than an ar10 all things the same. With the right charging handle blow back can be managed.

In any case if I am "double plugged" I don't mind using brakes. Others around me might though...

My Steyr Scout rifle suppressed is a pussy cat, the recoil is remarkably well managed. I've tried all sorts of brakes on it, and shot it naked (the gun, not me lol). It loves the suppressor, it shoots sub-MOA with it, my shoulder agrees :)

There is no debating the effectiveness of the JP recoil eliminator. With it on though, I would not recommend any shooting without hearing protection for everyone around you. Are you wiling (or already have) going to invest in some electronic hearing protection to wear while hunting?

Try shooting a JP recoil eliminator, it's not as bad for the shooter, or other shooters as most imagine. I feel way more blowback from 5.56 brakes than this one, as a lane neighbor.

I shoot 3-gun and have been around all sorts of brakes as a safety officer/match director. "Not as bad" is relative, as it is much louder than any 308 hunting rifle with no brake attached. Ultimately though, it's your hearing.

Sounds like you have a winner.
