What To Do with These Bullets

Just trying to make up my mind. I have 141 projectiles left from a while ago. I never found a load I liked. They are Hornady 55 grain 0.224 soft points without a cannelure #2265.

I was thinking of making a reduced load down in the 2500 fps range. I have Tactical Rifle loads that push 55 grain FMJ bullets in that range reliably, particularly in my 20” upper.

The other alternative is to push them to normal velocity. For this, I’d try Tactical Rifle, Match Rifle, or CFE 223. I don’t really have a purpose in mind except maybe ground hog or coyote control. Any ideas why one power level might be preferred?

I do the same with leftover bullets from testing that didnt work out.

I had some of those same bullets... I found them quite accurate. I loaded 1000 of them over H335.

I can't stand odd bullets setting around, or partial boxes on the shelf... like you, I just pick a load that worked well enough (from previous load testing...) and get rid of them. Waste not, whatnot.

Odds and ends, and practice your offhand shooting or make some veggie salad for your local wildlife at harvest time. Use up some powders, brass, primers that are also odd ducks. Offhand and casual shooting are obviously not precision games, so you don't need cloverleaf's.

Same. I really like the 55gr SPs. Very consistent for what used to be a 7 cent bullet. I still have a pile of them left thankfully.

Are these soft points like they mushroom or more like varmint bullets that fragment?

Yep, the cost per was a good deal not long ago and they were fairly accurate. Shot most of mine up though. If more show up at reasonable cost I'll jump on em. As suggested use up some other supplies that have been sitting around and plink with them if it really bothers you.

I had a load with TAC that shoot well but I used all my TAC in another load. Test load at Ramshots minimum charge shot right at 1 MOA.

I’m intrigued by a 22 Hornet +P level load that will run my AR.

I like these because they are gentle on my steel plates. I've loaded them mainly over CFE.
Ringing steel at 100 yards with irons is fun.

Have you got no kids who raid your ammo supply? Load them standard and give them away!
(I keep my special loads in the bottom ammo cans, the kids dig into the ones on top!)

I don't waste time, and components for a bang.
I toss them or give them away.

It's 2024 and primers are 7 1/2c each and powder is over $50/lb BEFORE shipping and hazmat...

I don't waste components on bullets for which I don't find honest, productive utility. I used to load a bunch of stuff just because I had it, but these days, not a chance. Somebody wants them, and we have access to the entire world in an instant - sell them or pay them forward, but SOMEBODY wants them.
