What was the first gun you ever bought for yourself?

I was 18, bought a Savage 17 HMR with scope. Sold it a few years later due to the cost over 22lr , the amount of meat damage to squirrels, and I didn’t like shooting it without hearing protection.

Of course, now I use hearing protection no matter what I am shooting, even 22lr.

I had a few hunting rifles that were birthday and graduation gifts and two handguns as well. But the first firearm I ever bought all by myself was a Norinco Mak90. I still have it! It was all of $179.00. in '93. I wanted an AR15 so bad but couldn't afford it.

Ruger P89 in 9mm, two tone version. Bought at a pawn shop for $250 in 1992. I still have it today, but haven't shot it in several years.

A 1909 Argentine 98. I picked it out of a barrel full of the same model, along with 100 rounds of 7.65 surplus ammo, down at the hardware store when I was 14.

Wow! I could have almost quoted your post and just said "+1," MifflinKid. And I was only a few years ahead of you.
The first gun I bought for myself was a High Standard Sentinel (don't know if it was a "Deluxe") 9-shot .22LR revolver too. Only differences were I was probably only about 17 or 18, and I bought the gun through my mom's and dad's country store in 1965, or early 1966. It seems like I still paid close to $30.00 for mine though, and that was wholesale. So you must have gotten a bargain if you only paid $35.00 for yours in 1972.:)
I too killed a lot of rats at the county dump with mine. It also accounted for a lot of forest grouse, and put more than one ran-over cat out of its misery over the years. I foolishly sold my High Standard Sentinel sometime back in the '80s.:(
Yeah, in my small collection of 22's there's a Sentinel 922. A friend used to borrow it for her cwp permit classes. If they did Universal BR checks we wouldn't have been able to do that How stupid.

Do trades count. I was the ripe old age of 19. The first was a Remington Rand 1911A1. I traded for it. I traded it away when I left SEA. The first I gave money for was a Hi Power. Sure wish I could have kept both but they weren't technically legal so I couldn't bring them back.

Back in the dark ages, got license at 16 and bought an Anschutz 520. 22lr semi rifle, heavy as hell but dang did it shoot.

I bought one of the unissued, arsenal wrapped No. 4, Mk. 2 Lee Enfield's just after turning 18 in 1994. Within 6 months, I had picked-up a new Norinco SKS and a new Mak 90. I bought a blued 99% Ruger Police Service-Six on my 21st birthday- went to the LGS straight from the drivers licence office with a new ID still warm from the laminating machine.

I bought a Marlin model 60 when I was about 9. I believe I actually did a bunch of yard work and to my surprise, got paid in the form of a gun. My Grandpa was a cool guy.

My first actual gun purchase, as in 18 years old type purchase, was a Remington SPR 220 SxS. Id been a fan of Evil Dead and Army of Darkness since I was 10. Already owned the Homelite but had to have the Boomstick. Silly, I know. But movies do sell guns, and I think that's great.

Sure! I meant simply what was the first gun you got for yourself, not a hand me down or gift. A Rem. Rand .45? The Army gave me a Colt 1911 in MP school that might have been the first one as loose as it was. If you pointed it and rolled your forearm side to side gravity would rock the slide back and forth. And they wanted me to qualify with that.
At Ft Carson I was issued one made by Ithaca. Not as strange as my M-16, that was made by GM's Turbo Hydromatic Div. Surprised the selector switch didn't say Park Neutral and Drive instead of the usual Safe Semi and Auto.

Would never pay good money for an M-16 or AR-15. Good range toys, but not something I'll ever trust again for anything serious.

Fall of '65 a Glenfield .22 semi rifle I bought with my summer mowing lawns money but I was only 13 so my father helped out me out and I think he kicked in ten bucks. Grandson has it now.
My first big boy gun was a Model 59 S&W 9mm I bought in 1973 for $225. I believe it was the first American made double stack 9.

A Marlin Model 60. Bought it at a KMart on Long Island. It broke the first time I shot it. Due to some customer service stupidity and my naivety it never got fixed.

I bought a Ruger 10/22 and never looked back

I was 15 when I gave my dad the money to buy me a Mossberg 500. I bought it from my high school history teacher, he was a kitchen table FFL. I bought a Ruger 10/22 the day I turned 18. I still have both of them.

At age 15, I bought a H&R 9 shot .22 revolver from a cowhand. Kept it a year and sold it to a sheep herder. 1959, I bought a Ruger Single 6 convertible and I've still got it..

A High Standard Sentinel Deluxe 9 shot .22LR revolver. I bought it used, with a holster, on my 21st birthday in 1972. As I recall I paid $35.

It killed a lot of rats at the township dump.
Count me in !!! That was my first purchase. Mine had the 6" barrel. It was lost in time, but recently I found one exactly like it, in like new condition, so I snapped it up. This pic should bring back fond memories IMG_3238[1].JPG
