What was the first gun you ever bought for yourself?

My first was a Springfield savage 22 semiautomatic rifle, I believe the model number was 67. Bought it in 1977 at age 12. Cost 65 dollars.

I sold it in late 90's to a 14 yr old kid from my gun club for indoor small bore rifle competition. With his mother's permition of course.

I don't know the proper nomenclature but it was a an old 6" Smith revolver marked as a .38 S&W on the barrel that had been properly converted to .38 spl. It was an old 5 screw long action from the original Military and Police days.

Wish I had not let my father have it.

Oh yeah, the summer of ‘65 I was 16 and had a summer job cowboying on H L Hunt’s (the richest man in the US at the time) ranch in E. Texas. I was making $0.65 cents an hour! ‘Course I would have done it for free just to get to ride those horses!
Anyway, I saved my money and at the end of the summer I went to a large department store where I had been eyeing the guns all summer. I had decided on a Ruger Bearcat .22lr single action. IIRC it was $43.25 out the door. I walked up to the counter, pointed out the Ruger and said “I’ll take that one”. I laid a $50 dollar bill on the counter and the clerk got one in a box, wrote up the sales ticket,(handwritten), handed me my change and said something like “have fun with it “.
He never said anything about age, so I didn’t either. I still have it and it will go to my grandson next year. Things were sure different in those days!

I had mentioned my parents buying me a Marlin .22 at age 12. But my own first post 18 acquisition was a win in a college card game in 1965, a Ruger Single Six with both cylinders and a holster and cartridge belt.

I used it for a while then foolishly traded it even up at a local gun store for a new Beretta 950 Jetfire in .22 short. The fact that James Bond used one, before he was ordered to use a Walther PPK, may have had something to do with it.

I later carried a PPK/S as an off duty gun. And bought a Rolex Submariner, because, yeah, he wore one. Really enjoyed those Ian Fleming novels. lol

My first gun purchase came at age 18, in November 1968 when a local sporting goods store had a blow-out sale on shotguns. Got my first 12 ga.; A High Standard Flite King for $69.95 and I was lucky I got there in time to get one. Got the very last one they had and as I was handing over the cash other guys came in looking for one. Already had my dad's old Iver Johnson 16 ga. single shot and old Winchester Mod. 67 .22 but this was my very first purchase of ANY gun. Still got it and I'm surprised how well it still looks considering how much its been through. IMG_1912.JPG IMG_1919.JPG

Mid 1970's, don't recall if I was still in school or not, but I do remember my first purchase!
In the basement of the Gibson's store in Ely, Mn was a smaller glass case next to some fishing tackle,etc.. Some long guns in it, but the one bought was (and still is) a model 870 Remington Wingmaster. (3 inch12 gauge)
Still in use every fall.:)

I bought a Weatherby Mark XXII when I was 12 in 1969, a 1851 Navy BP (copy) when I was 14, a Ruger Single-Six when I was 18, and a S&W Model 19 when I was 20.

Benelli Nova 12 gauge at 18 years old. Paid $319 brand new. 18 years later it’s been used for more than it was ever built to and it’s still trucking right along. One of my most used guns and certainly one of my best buys. Couldn’t ask for more.

Enfield No. 5 that had been "improved" by Bubba, sometime in 1981. Paid $50 or $60 for it at a local pawn shop. That short barrel made it a real boomer.

My first purchase was a Colt Frontier Scout .22 single action that I bought new in the late 50's or early 60's. I bought it from Sears for $50.00 which was a lot of money back then. I was a teenager and had saved my money working as a helper delivering furniture. I went in a bought it no questions asked and no paperwork to fill out. It was very accurate even with fixed sights and I killed a lot of jackrabbits in Montana with it. Wish I still had that great old revolver.

My first gun that I payed for was a Series 70 Colt 1911. I was somewhere around 12. Of course dad did the paperwork. Wow....that was in 1979 or 1980.
I worked summers with my dad doing HVAC/R work. The next summer I bought a 6” model 29 Smith-Wesson. I was a little gun nut at a early age and now I’m 52 and still have the gun disease, and I’m still in the HVAC/R biz. This is year 35 for me full time.

My first would be a Browning Hi-Power bought NIB in (I think) 1962 followed a couple of months later by a S&W Model 27-2 also NIB. And just for the record, I still have both.

A S&W 469 when I felt like it would be a good idea to have a carry/glovebox gun.
The works were pretty clapped out. Trigger break was like pressing the trigger into the end of its travel and it could put a magazine in a man-sized target at 7 yards at practice, but not much better.

I was telling someone a story about seeing the gun on the cover, so I jumped online to see if maybe there was a picture of the cover of that issue of ST. Lo and behold there was, on an ebay auction! I bought it for old time's sake.

I still have that copy of Shooting Times! First copy of that magazine I ever bought; got it mainly because the cover photo of the Colt Python was so awesome!

I bought my first gun, a Webley Mk. IV with the "War Finish" marking on it, at an outdoor flea market my folks took me to. Mom was really into Early American home decor and was there looking for antiques. I think I paid $120 for the Webley. It's still in the family as I loaned it to my brother for home defense and then some years back he loaned it to my other brother.

First gun I bought for myself was in fact my first gun period. Mossberg 500 Field/Home Combo. Can't remember the last time I shot it sadly, mostly shoot my pistols and rifles now.
