What was the first gun you ever bought for yourself?

I purchased my very first rifle in 1956 or 57 when I was 11 or 12 years old from a grade school classmate for some baseball cards he wanted badly and a few bucks I had left over from earnings from picking cotton. It was a well worn Savage firearms-Stevens single shot bolt action .22 that shot shorts, longs, and long rifle. I think it was a model 15, but do not remember the suffix since they made several.

Here's a picture of one I found on the net--although unlike this one, mine had very little finish left on it. In 1958, my folks bought me a nice Winchester 62a .22 cal pump for my birthday and the bolt action went to some other kid who wanted it.

A very bad Taurus Model 83 4" nickel plated .38spl was my first gun. Worst gun I've ever had. Looked great though.

When it went off to Miami the first time to try to fix it, I bought a Dan Wesson 15-2 and had it for years. After a second Miami trip, the Taurus was gone.

Interesting, my first gun was the same but I was given it because it "Didn't work no more". One firing pin and spring (old one was thoroughly wound around the trigger mech) later and it worked fine. Cost me $1.50 back then. I think it was right about the same time frame as your purchase.
I bought mine new. Don't remember what I paid for. Must not have been too much. I was pretty poor back then.

a .22 gallery gun/slide action/pump is my next purchase, but I'm not actively seeking. If the gun gods drop one in my lap (I.e. someone brings on into the shop) most likely I'll buy it.

Winchester 94, 3030. Brand new for $99. A few years later A well used tuned up colt Commander in 45 ACP for $300. That was over 40 years ago and still have both guns.

I posted about this before, but my dad conveniently forgot that the 62a pump was mine and sold it without my permission while I was in Vietnam in 1969. I loved that little gun and since we lived on the edge of a small rural community, I would take it shooting almost every day after school. I put a lot of fried squirrel on the table with it too. I never forgave my old man for selling it, but then our relationship was always strained after I became an adult.

However, last year I found the one shown below at the spring Wannenmacher show in Tulsa. The seller told me that the one shown was made in 1958, which was the last year of production I believe, so I bought it on the spot. When I got home and checked on the serial number, It turned out that it was from 1954, but that didn't dim the fact that I got my childhood companion back. It's in close to mint condition--maybe 97% plus. You don't see too many this nice.

Here's a picture I've posted before with some 1950's period catalogs, ammunition, and the kind of junk that a 13 year old kid might have had in his pockets in the 50's-- including a Lone Ranger Barlow knife, silver bullet, compass, 50's pocket change, and some strike anywhere matches. The Winchester Christmas ad with with red headed kid was cut out of a 1960 Field & Stream magazine I found on eBay.

1893 Spanish Mauser carbine 7x57 mm. Cock on closing. Bought it when I was still in college back around 1971 because it was cheap but in nice shape. Hid it in the closet of my dorm room and swore my roommate to secrecy. Sold it a couple of years later so I could buy an 03 A3 Springfield with a semi pistol grip stock that looked almost new. I wish I had kept it.

Wasn't old enough to buy a handgun so IIRC it was a 22 survival rifle. It now goes by the name AR-7 but I think when I bought it it wasn't a Henry.

I lived in rural Illinois where most everyone I knew only had two hunting guns: a 22LR rifle and a shotgun. Particular models varied a lot but most were not semi-auto. So shortly after getting my FOID card, I bought a new Marlin 60. Roundly scorned by my Fudd acquaintances as an ammo waster. They were really unhappy with my weekly brick purchases ($6 for 500 wildcats, the $3.80 American eagles only had 400 rounds in the brick and were weak cyclers so only bought them when the other was sold out). Worn out 3 recoil springs and replaced the plastic dampner once. Three decades later still works just fine.

My first gun bought without my father present was a Sterling .22 semiauto pistol. I stopped in a liquor store for a 12 pack of beer. When I got to the counter the owner , who was a retired policeman, asked me if I needed any guns , as he nodded toward a glass counter to the right. There were about 15 hand guns of various types in the case. This was around 1974 , man have times changed.

Ruger RST-6. Bought it in 1979. Longer barrel version of the first pistol I ever fired, about 9 years earlier. Guess it left a big impression on me. I still have the Ruger, it still looks great, just replaced the stocks with more hand-filling ones, shown.

Savage mod 24V .22/20 ga. At Western auto store when I was 14. Sold a calf and bought the Savage. No paperwork.

1st gun I actually paid money for was a 45/70 Springfield Trapdoor. I was around 16 and as I remember it was either $25 or $35. However there were a lot of guns I had prior to that but they were all traded for...

First used gun I bought for myself is an old Remington Sportsman 48 12 gauge in either 1974 or 1975, gave $35.00 for it. Still works just fine but doesn't get shot much since I bought an 870 a few years ago.

First new gun I bought for myself was a Glenfield 22 semi-auto rifle from a K-Mart in Batesville, Arkansas in 1976. Killed a lot of squirrels with that gun. It was behind the seat of my pickup when it was stolen in 1986. Got the pickup back but of course the gun was gone.

The first I paid for ( dad did the 4473) was a Glenfield m60.....have put thousands of rounds through that gun, and still have it.

My first 4473 was about a week after my 21st birthday.....Desert Eagle 357 mag, two tone....beautiful gun.

I still kick my hiney over trading that one away...
