Firearms International Bronco 22LR single shot, received as a birthday present in the early 70"s. It currently belongs to my oldest daughter but resides in my safe as she lives in a country that is relatively unfriendly towards firearms.

My very first firearm was an Ithaca super single .410 that was a Christmas present in 1970. My first actual purchase was a Glenfield model 60 in 1980, and my first handgun purchase was a Taurus model 66 in 1986. I stall have all three!

My first was a Marlin 60 I got in 86. My brother got my grandfather's bolt action 22 in 85 and I was pretty upset that all I got was a bb gun( I guess technically that bb gun was my first.) lol. So the next year "Santa" got me my Marlin. I still have it to this day, and will have it till the day I die. Then it's off to one of my kids.

What was your first rimfire or centerfire gun? Do you still have it?

Winchester Model 94 in .32 Win Spec. Do I still have it? Yes..and no. I long ago sold the original but now have a (better) pre-64.

My previous post detailed my first gun that didn't work until I was in my 20's. The first, actual working gun that I got was an Iver Johnson 16 ga. Champion single shot break open. My dad had gotten that about 1939-40 with paper route money. In the 1950's it went to an older cousin who was getting into hunting. I got it in 1967 and it was still nice although the bluing was getting real thin. In 1978 I had the thing re-blued, re-case hardened, and the old master gunsmith who did it charged me less than 60 bucks for it, ( still have the receipt ). It rarely comes out of the safe except for a check & wipe down but now that I'm retired my goal is to take a pheasant or two with it, which is what my dad used it for. IMG_1845.JPG ... My first was a Savage 24 22/20 that Mom and Dad gave me for Christmas in about 1969.
I walked a lot of fence rows in Kentucky hunting rabbits with that gun with Dad.
Thank goodness I never sold it.

My first gun that I actually bought and paid for and could call my own was a Smith 669. I don't have it any longer. Actually, I only had it for about two months until I came to the realization that I couldn't hit the ground with it if I dropped it. I traded it for a used, stainless Colt Series 80 Combat Commander. The first in a line of MANY 1911's.

20 gauge New England single shot my dad bought me at 12. Still have it.

First I bought was a Benelli Nova which I no longer have. Of course I bought another a few years later.

LOL. The first firearm I bought was also a Marlin 60, purchased in 1985 or 1986 from Service Merchandise. And I didn’t really get interested in guns till about 7 years ago, but I still have that .22 rifle and the original box & papers.

The first firearm I owned was an inexpensive single shot 12ga given to me as a teenager. My dad broke the stock of that one hitting a bull over the head. Don’t know what became of it after that.
The first firearm I ever spent my own money on was also purchased from Service Merchandise, but mine was a Glenfield model 60 instead of a Marlin. This would have been around 1979 when I was still in high school so my mom was the actual buyer. That gun was stolen along with a bunch of other stuff in a burglary in 1992.

My dad did the paperwork on my S&W model 19 in 1981 when I was a senior. I still have that gun and I still love it. The first gun that I actually did the 4473 on was a Winchester 1200 12 gauge shotgun. I eventually traded it for a Browning BPS because it was more lefty friendly. I still have the BPS.

Pretty neat reading all these comments and the stories that go with them. Seems most of us either still have their first, or it's still in the family somewhere (brothers, sons, daughter's, etc). Pretty good variety of guns too. Thanks for sharing.

Crossman 766, nothing that weighed less than 20oz and was within 150ft was safe from 9yr old me.
My first rimfire was a Remington 22 auto, wasn't very reliable, fairly accurate. I don't remember the model.
My first centerfire was New England 20ga.
It's still around, the other two are long gone.

First firearm I ever fired was a M16A2 loaned to me by Uncle Sam. And no I don't still have it. Although I am sure it is still in service somewhere. First firearm I bought was a Walther P99AS .40S&W on my 21st birthday. Yes I still have it and no I will never get rid of it. I am quite sentimental when it comes to some things like firearms.

Yes.
Savage .22, probably produced in the early 50s (?). Bought by a grandfather for shooting squirrels near a pecan tree.

No luck with Google finding data for matching limited info and years of production. No visible # number, unless maybe under the wood.

"Model 3B", "Short, Long or Long Rifle" on barrel, encircled "18" at left rear of barrel, with an "S" on upper left area of the rounded section of the bolt. Perfect, tiny bead sight with a nice long sight distance.
* Does anybody know the approx. date of manufacture? No luck finding such info on anything linked to Remington.

Yes and no... and yes.

The first gun I ever purchased for myself, and it therefore was mine, was a S&W 622. Many thousands of rounds later I still own that gun. It's a great little shooter!

The first gun I ever thought of as mine was actually my dad's 9-shot 22LR High Standard revolver. It was the first gun I ever fired. We shot that gun for years and years, until the top strap popped off one day. Figuring that the gun would be unrepairable, we disposed of it. Many years later (about 23), my dad found another High Standard identical to the one he had way back then; exact same model and year of manufacture. He bought it and presented it to me as a birthday gift. He even had the original holster that he had, for some reason, held onto all that time! So while it's not actually my first gun, it feels like it is every time I shoot it.

First gun a Marlin mdl 81 bolt action in 1964.(Sear and Roebuck) Second gun a Winchester MDL model 70. still have both in excellent condition.

Rimfire Mauser .22 LR single shot. Story my Dad told me was that it was used in between the WW's to train as the treaty ending WWI prohibited manufacture of weapons of war. The bill of sale I have on it says the price paid was a pound of coffee and a carton of cigarettes.

And yes, still have it.

swamprat, was your gun made by Mauser at Oberndorf, or one of many other manufacturers that produced the Sportmodell or other mauser-type trainers? If not apparent on the gun, I can get you some source info. I had one that was made by Walther, and still have one made by Anschutz.
