What would be the most obnoxious firearm to shoot at a range?

Besides something obvious like a .50 BMG...any rifle with a nasty muzzle brake.

If you want to be a jerk just because you can, get the hottest round in the shortest barrel with a muzzle brake.

What was he supposed to do?
Considering there were no shooting lanes per-se. He could have moved over a couple of feet after I mentioned it so that I wasn't getting showered with his brass. But no he continued to shower me and apparently thought it funny as he was chuckling.

Anything really high pressure and severe over-bore with an aggressive brake, esp a left and right brake. I've been slapped silly a few times at public ranges (but never complained--guns do that).

When the guys with the 500 S&W show at the range I move as far away as I can. Have a gent that shows up with a S&W model 53 in 22 Remington Jet,even outdoors the muzzle blast rattles the fillings.

I've shot a few...a Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine...a short barreled 416 Taylor with a KDF brake ( the worst)...a 416 Weatherby magnum with a similar brake...and a 340 Weatherby with a KDF style brake. I got rid of them all!!! ha

Worst gun I ever shot was a short barreled Raging Bull in .454 Casull. With a 2 handed grip, it felt like that thing was trying to break my thumbs. Oddly enough, I shot a .460 s&w out of a revolver roughly the same size and it wasn't nearly as bad.

The worst bit of obnoxiousness I ever took to a public range was a snubby .460S&W with heavy loads.

The funniest was at an outdoor pistol range. The range assigned me the bench all the way to one end. I set up and started shooting....and gradually became aware that the rest of line line had gone quiet. I turned to look, and found everyone staring at me....

There was just a slight breeze blowing from my end of the bench, along the benches. Just enough breeze to gently move the smoke from my Old Army cap and ball out of my way - and into everyone else's - as I shot. I had smokescreened the entire line.

I have no doubt there are louder guns, but my local indoor range allows S&W 460 mag to be shot. However, I doubt I'll ever do so out of courtesy to other shooters. I also question the ability of even doubled up ear protection to protect my hearing if I shot a full power load in a confined space like a shooting lane.

One of those would certainly shake the walls and roof. Time and place for everything. When I was a member, my favored indoor caliber was 22LR and often from a rifle (punching holes). Believe me, I didn't like someone near me shooting a 44 mag.

I have not had the pleasure of being beside a S&W 500 but would guess it would top most 44 Magnum guns. Would it bother me? Not really. It is a range and ranges tend to have loud noises. I shoot 44 Magnum in a S&W Model 29 5" and the gun, with full house loads can be loud. There is no way I can make that revolver quiet or make it sound like a 9mm or 38 Special. I don't take it out every range session but when I do take it out I plan to shoot it. If I am already on a stall and you park beside me I am not moving anywhere. However, when I look for a spot on the line I will try and isolate myself as much as possible. Again. it's a shooting range not a library. I am not going to complain about the guy with the S&W 500 and I do not expect people to complain about me. That's life!

I was spotting for a friend with a new-to-him Enfield No. 4 Jungle Carbine. He was shooting off of a bench under a metal "carport" type cover. When he touched that thing off, I was nearly blown off of my stool by the concussion. I think it was really a whole-body flinch!

My "Jungle Carbine", a bubba'd No.1 Mk.III, has just about knocked my off the stool. It served as an important lesson on maintaining a balanced position when shooting.

300 BLK 7.5" barrel. With those little Nossler 110 grain Varmageddons its a bit on the loud side in indoor ranges without the can.

Not sure about obnoxious, but shooting my "woods" load out of my G20 indoors has turned more than a few heads

Whe I was shooting IHMSA handgun silhouette back in the early 1980s, we had a member who loved recoil and muzzle blast. He shot rifle spec loads out of a .308 Win. 10" Contender. He rarely hit anything, but he made a lot of fire and noise!

The most obnoxious I have been around, was the sks in the next station chunking steel cases on my Leuoplod vx3. The noise wasn't a problem. I asked him to move or replace my scope.

Dude, flying spent cases are part of being on a range. If your scope can't handle being hit by spent cases, don't take it to a range when somebody else is there lol

A considerate person pays attention to where there brass is going and adjusts accordingly. Would you say the same thing if the brass was hitting an 8yo girl out shooting w/ her father? After all flying brass is part of the range

Would I say what? That if your scope can't handle being hit by spent cases, don't shoot it at the range when others are shooting? Yes, I would say that. lol
