Is anybody going to San Antone?
You get to camp, you, your best friend (a Labrador named Reno), and your human "best" friend Jack. The tents set up, the guns are ready, Reno has gone to the restroom. The hunt is on, except now Jack looks worried reaching around himself, digging into his pack "I forgot my knife at home" he says, you reach into your pack and pull out.....

In situations like this (it happens frequently around me) I hand my friends a Cold Steel Peace Keeper II. Used to carry this in my boot. Had a custom sheath made and now it's a loaner knife on hunts and fishing trips. IMG_20190910_185958158.jpg IMG_20190910_190013034.jpg

Most time I use a mora 2000. I have in my pack a 2knife set from the old buckmasters magazine. Don't now who made them but there great stainless knifes. There my spare, but I always have a extra just in case. The other is a ss crkt knife with a gut hook that I broke one time I locked my keys in my dads truck hunting. Time the but hook is the perfect size to unscrew the radio antenna on most cars.

Anything besides my fixed buck knife....If anyone is loosing THAT one it's me.
I carry somewhere between 3 and 6 knives in my bag, tho I've been known to forget said bag and be that Jack guy...course then there's days when everyone forgets their knife and the rest of the day (or night) might as well be work....

I killed a.deer about 450 yards down a hill side one time, did not want to bring my pack. Forgot I put my main knife in the pack, I did not feel like walking back or dragging the deer with out field dressing it. Used the little key knife I keep with my truck key's worked pretty good I always keep it sharp for cutting braided fishing line.

I'd hate to use my p38 lol, so always have a knife somewhere.

Moras or Cold Steel's that I have bought on closeout over the years. Good usable knives but if I don't get them back I'm OK.

I used to keep my SAK on a lanyard when I was in the Army. If someone wanted to "borrow" it they could go no further than that lanyard. Learned I had to do that as people would borrow any knife and use it to cut commo wire with it! Dulls a good knife quick.

betcha a real sharp p38 open 'er up like a zipper tho......

Loan out a knife and expect to get it back broken!

A shooting bud of mine, when someone wants to borrow his knife, he will ask Where is your knife? and regardless of the reply, he tells the person "and that is why you are not getting my knife!."

Sometimes tough love is the best practice if you want to keep your knives in operating condition.

Hence why they get a cheap 25 dollar knife :D

3 to six knives in a bag? Damn that's good. I have the folder in the jeep as a backup (Black Rock Hunter) when I forget my EDC knife (Recon 1). I have my main hunting knife (Case Bowie) and then that CS peace keeper as the backup . What knives do you rotate?

My buck A gut hook Gerber of some sort, and a drop point Gerber gator for fixed blades. Then what ever folders I'm currently messing with, mostly cheap stuff as I loose them.
I had one yanked out of my pocket by lantana yesterday. Had to drag my deer 1/2 way back to the road guts in, then went back for my backpack.

You guys are far too nice. I experience this all the time with my oldest son, but with multi-tools more than knives. He lost the Gerber Wave my Dad bought for him for his 16th BD, the Wingman I bought for him to replace that, the Gerber Suspension I bought him to replace that-so I started buying him the $4 Ozark Trail multi-tools at work. I keep a couple handy for when he visits.

Ozark.... The name of pure evil, had one of their 2 dollar pocket knives break on me, apparently opening a box put too much stress on the mechanism. I don't carry around a big multi tool anymore just the Gerber Dime on my keys.

I keep some combination of 2 or more Buck, Gerber, and Kershaw folders around everywhere including my vehicles, gear bags, etc. I’ve also bought a bunch of really inexpensive but hardy house-brand knives from www.lapolicegear.com.

The LA Police Gear knives (and flash lights) are decent and work well. Not made in the USA but for loaners and give always, hard to beat for the price. Biggest sales are around Chistmas.

I don’t pack OTC knives anymore. Knives in my pack are handmade, likely by me. Any tool is built to be used up, at some point.
Nobody is as careful with my gear as I am, but “Here ya go!” And I’ll be gracious about it,expecting the worst. The choice of a hunting partner was the first decision made, all you can do is hope that covers wisdom with borrowed knives.

One day I hope to buy a custom made knife. You spend so much money on guns, holsters, sheaths. Why shouldn't I spend some of that money on a great knife?

This reminds me that it may be good practice to have a smaller backup knife on hand. Among my usual cohorts they tend to not need cutting tools. I've come across a handful of situations over the years where one of them asks if any of us has a knife.

Part of the problem is that they each have so much of their own character, you want more than one. On the flip side you don't keep gazing at other people's belt sheaths, wondering what they have.... you're satisfied with yours. ;)
