What's your favorite powder for 30-06?

I know around here Varget is $65/lb. So I've been looking for other powders that work just as good.

The most accurate hunting load I have ever used in a 30-06 is with a Sierra GameKing 150 grain bullet with the base of the bullet seated even with the rear of the case neck in front of 57 grains of Reloader 17. I have used this load in several rifles and it will give less than MOA results. For really serious big game hunting I like a 165 grain Nosler Partition in front of 56 grains of Reloader 17. It's not as accurate as the Sierrra GameKing but the small trade off in accuracy is worth the increase in performance on game. When you hit an animal with that load there will be an immediate reaction. For many years I used 57 grains of IMR 4350 with Speer and Sierra 165 grain bullets and I always like that load.

Man, I've used IMR4350 and the 165 grain SGK BTHP for deer for the last several years. Now it costs a king's ransom for that powder.
Thankfully my gun isn't picky and I've had acceptable accuracy with others, but that load was so good.

Me too! I'm now down to just a few ounces of the IMR stuff, but a friend gave me a pound of AA 4350......brewed up some identical loads to the IMR formula and got identical results................at the price difference it appears that AA is in my future...just ordered a batch from Brownell's via their sales flyer.

I have read/heard, that AA4064 is very close to IMR 4064. I will be looking into this as the IMR powders are sometimes hard to find and expensive.
Luckily, my lgs has it.

I don't think I've ever used any Accurate powders at all.
Good to hear it's a good replacement.

I'm getting very similar results and good accuracy. M1 Garand level loads at 46/47 168/155 loads with AA4064. AA2495 (4895 similar) didn't group as well for me, but gave safe and effective loads. Was lights out in heavy match .223 and a couple of odd medium burn applications. IMR4064 has been my grail for a long time in the M1, and the AA version is serving me well. Saving the IMR version for obsolete cartridges with limited data. The Sprgfld and M1 are eating AA4064 going forward including serious matches... Have a state championship 3 gun M1/Sprgfle/Vintage aggregate to defend, and possibly Perry next year. AA4064 is GTG!

Edit. Meant to quote this one from .45 coltguy.

I got an 8 of aa4046 just before the new year. In 308 it's 1.5 grains slower at a max than imr 4064 with a 168 custom competition. I'm pleased with it so far. I snatched up some aa2015 that I just tested today. I like extruded so that's what I got. If it's on the shelf for reasonable price I'd try 2495 just as fast....

Accurate 4064. Just fine in garands and my bolt action. Always in stock at several suppliers. Price was under forty quite a while. Now over fifty. If things were different I'd be full up on H 4895 and large rifle primers. I'm a local shopper.

I started with IMR4895 years ago and it has treated me well. H4895 works well also. I tried some IMR4320, only because I picked it up cheap, and it shot decent in a 1903 Mark 1.

.308/150 grain was one of the applications 2495 worked very well for me. Just a quick safety work up with 150 speer to develop an alternative hunting load. From 1.5 minus to book max, it was just under 1 MOA which is par for the rifle with a good load. Was unfortunate my M1 didn't like it, as it was on sale locally in 8s. Ended up with a bunch of 1s of AA4064 instead.
