What's your "never buy" gun?

and most non-North America or non-Western European guns

Mosin's - and most other C&R eligible firearms; generally speaking new designs work better (and look better to my eyes);

Tokarev, Makarov, Mosin...Enjoyable to have in a collection. Shoot once in a while. They maintain they're value.

Anything sig sauer

I had a Sig that had a casting flaw in the frame that disabled the mag release so I sent it in, only to have them lose it, then after almost an entire year it was found and returned, in the same condition it was sent-broken. After repairing it I sold EVERY SIG I owned. If that is how they spell lifetime warranty, I'll buy AMERICAN, thanks

For the same reason that some people would rather not buy Chinese goods, or blood diamonds, or gas at a BP or Mobil station(s). Or even buy the products from a competitor to your business. After all, it's not the fault of the goods, the diamonds, the oil or whatever else you might choose to buy.
B

That doesn't actually make sense.

Owning an AK doesn't mean giving your money and patronage to every person that has ever used an AK. Unless you are paying money to the guy who shot the serviceman/woman to buy his, it is NOT like those examples that you gave.

What it would be like...boycotting all AR type rifles because they were used at the school and the movie theater.

This is by far the worst thread I've ever seen on THR. An embarrassment to the gun-owning community.

Since every single brand and model of firearm produced in the modern era seems to have been mentioned, what sort of message does this give to the gun newbies? Really?

For the love of humanity, this thread needs to be put to death.

Take it easy. We're having fun here. Don't be such a party pooper.

This response nails it!

The question was never intended to be a serious one, it asked what gun was YOUR "never buy gun". The reason(s) why are just as personal as for the guns each person WOULD buy!

Post and have fun!

:)

Agreed

Bryco

I was in a pawn shop when a guy walked in and tried to pawn or sell his Bryco for $20. The pawnshop owner wouldn't take it at that price. In fact, he said he wouldn't take it at ANY price. I felt sorry for the guy with the gun and gave him $30. Big mistake.

I could not get that POS through even one magazine when it locked in mid battery. All I could do was pull the magazine, check the chamber, and spend $60 to Fedex it to the company, which charged me another $30 to fix it. So, after all that, $90 in grief for a $30 impulse buy and act of kindness, what do I get the very next time I take it to the range? Same jam. Never ever made it through even one mag.

I'm curious about just the opposite. What would you never actually purchase, except maybe to turn around and sell to some dumb sucker for a nice profit? You might hate the company (H&K). You might see the gun as an impractical gimmick (Desert Eagle), you might dislike some politically/legally-mandated design features (Ruger Mk.III) or maybe just think the thing is a useless antique (1911 (just kidding please don't kill me)). Whatever. What would you never get for yourself, and why?

My choice would be one of those short-barrelled S&W X-frames. The muzzle blast of a snubnose .357 is quite enough for me, thank you. I know it's not exactly a linear comparison (my .44 Mag for instance is a pleasure to shoot while the .357 is a pain, almost literally) but still. Snubby .460 or .500? NO.

Just LOVE my S&W 500 ...4"
...just a BLAST to shoot (pun intended):D

Mine would be a snub nose .22 Magnum...waht a waste of money with little or NO advantage for the .22 Magnum ballistics...as the short barrel does nothing for it much more than .22LR
.22's are uninspiring girlyman guns anyway...:neener:

I agree about the snub nose being a total waste of time for the .22 Magnum.

Buuuuuutttt...if you wanna go out and have some fun going toe-to-toe with me and my Automag II, I'll be happy to oblige you!

I've got a little over 3,500 rounds of Winchester .22 WMR just waiting for an excuse to go shooting!

:neener:

(Provided, of course, you're anywhere close enough to make this a workable trip!)

The Flash & Shock wave from my .500 will cause your .22 to drop its mag in fear...

… Buuuuuutttt...if you wanna go out and have some fun going toe-to-toe with me and my Automag II, I'll be happy to oblige you! …

Are you suggesting … a duel? :D Heck, we haven't had one of those in these here parts since Hamilton and Burr went at it across the river in Joisey!

I don't really think I have a never buy gun, normally I'd say anything from Hi-Point, but if someone offered me one of those clunkers for $25 or less I probably couldn't say no.

I have hundreds if not thousands of guns I would not buy. A .475 double rifle comes to mind. Cool gun but at $8,000 + I can't see it. I have a good mix of handguns and I am always looking to expand the mix. EAA and turkish guns that I have and are exceptional. Looking for Lionhart and EAA Pavona to buy. Not serious yet. You've got to keep a wish list to make it fun. Might even try a Remmington R51.

I shot a friend's polymer Judge about a month ago. It worked fine with all shotshells, but didn't like slugs. I was also surprised by how controllable they are. Whatever Taurus is doing with the grips, they've got some kind of good system worked out. Maybe they should expand into grips for other guns.

Having said that, the Judge is overly huge and heavy due to needing a .410 length steel cylinder. The patterning is ridiculously useless. At ranges measured in feet we still had egregious patterns.

For my uses, I'd prefer any decent handgun over a Judge. I'd just never buy one.

I'll have to say, I haven't read any of the intervening 1900-odd posts; I agree in that time, every single firearm ever manufactured has probably been named.

My own list is so long and distinguished, it should be in a porn flick. Off the top of my head, much as I like S&W revolvers, the 500 S&W and all it's close relatives, or any handgun that has a raw materials value of $20 or less (most Sat nite specials) would probably top the list.

Any AR15.

I've shot them before and they just feel like toys. No disrespect to those that like them, but I just can't get into them.

As if anybody really NEEDS an excuse...

Heck, no! Duels are far too short to be any fun! I'm saying we can use this as an excuse to go out and burn a lot of powder and come home to listen to our wives complain about the smell!

:D

I don't have that many "never buy" but stuff like Jennings I'd never buy again. Had a .380 that constantly jammed (it was like my first handgun for $80).

I've never bought many brands like Taurus, Hi-Point and the like because I like quality. It's rare I have a problem with a new gun, in fact the only one I can think of was a Colt 1911 that couldn't hit anything the trigger pull was so bad.

I will probably never own a Glock but never's a long time!

Browning A Bolt rifles
Anything in 7mm Magnum
Springfield Armory products
Kimber pistols
Japanese milsurps
Scandium revolvers
Smith Sigma
Contenders
Accu-Trigger type rifles

At one point I would have said I never would say never to any gun. But after working at my current job, I would honestly say I will never willingly own any 9mm firearm. I isn't anything to do with performance, or any legitimate reason to dislike the cartridge itself, but rather because out of all the guns we build at work, the 9mms are the most consistent pain in the arse to build. 45s and 10mms go together with almost no problems, but the 9mms are so finicky. I learned to hate them pretty quick. I know that the problems that made me hate them won't exist by the time that the gun leaves the factory( at least, I know they don't in our guns) but I just can't get past how frustrating they are to build.
