When are we gonna start seeing 6.5/6.8mm AR's on the civilian market?

Ohhhh thank you for the links. How are those gas piston AR's coming along? :D

I thought that 6.5 was everyone's darling here though...

There's a guy at AR15.com trying to get H&K to let some of their gas piston upper out for sale, no news yet, publicly they have said they won't sell to Civies, I supect that's just till the U.S. Military gives the final OK on buying they XM8.

Another guy is making a gas piston upper kit, it was posted here a few days ago, I'm not sure when those will be available.

I'm also not sure on the status of the 6.5 Grendel.

6.8SPC uppers have been available since March.

At this point in time, the choices are: Barrett, Model 1 Sales, and MSTN/PRI. Of those, I believe the MSTN-built PRI guns are best. Expensive, yes.

I've also been loading 6.8 for a couple months. The 110gr VMAX is a good bullet; powder selection is more difficult. Still waiting on good mags.

Zak can you use a std upper with a 6.8 barrel..if so, who makes the best barrels, hell Ill just barrel up an upper! What fun is there to work in a gun shop if ya cant have yer own stuff done?

I believe both Model 1 sales and MSTN are selling barrel + bolt sets. The PRI barrel from MSTN should be considerably higher quality.

You may or may not have to adjust the M4-style feed ramps. My upper has enlarged M4 feedramps in it.

6.5 Grendel Availability

Well, let me speak for the 6.5 Grendel. Uppers and rifles are available. Go to my website, www.65grendel.com , and click on my advertisers for more info.

Alexander Arms is currently shipping virgin brass to those reloaders who've backordered it, and once those orders are filled, will be loading factory ammo. Should be ready within a week.

OK so far I have heard (mind ya this is the cocktai; party talk among gun dealers, distribs and manufacturers) that the 6.5 will eventually go under and the 6.8 is here to stay...also that the 6.8 is superior..

Opinions?

The question of, which one will be relegated to "wildcat" status used only by handloaders and match shooters, and which one will become semi-mainstream will be decided by the market.
