Last week I fell on the ice and dinged up my right shoulder. It feels a lot like ten years ago when I tore the tendon from the bone in my left shoulder.:uhoh: I hope it's not.

Anyhow since I can't raise my right hand I've had to shoot left handed, but still sighting with my right eye.
Today, shooting a 380 Makarov, I was sighting with my left eye. It was comfortable, as comfortable as shooting weak handed gets anyhow.

When you shoot with your left (weak) hand do you usually sight with your left eye also? If not you might try it.

The wind was a little strong today so I was just shooting at 15 yards. The Mak feels pretty good left handed. The S&W J Frame I was shooting yesterday takes a little getting used to when shooting weak hand.

Not great, but not too bad left handed.:)

Shoot with both eyes open and the problem corrects itself.
Then I'd just be shooting with my right eye again.

If having to shoot left handed because the right hand is disabled, it might be assumed that the right eye is also disabled.:)

Good results! I am not really aware of which eye I use weak hand tho - am right eye dominant.

All that concerns me is to get a sight pic'!! So - having enough trouble feeling awkward with gun in left - I do what needs done - more concerned over gun control with hand than sights and which eye!

I am often reminded that I should practice more weak hand - without having to manage for your reason! I hope that shoulder soon mends - my left shoulder was in big trouble over a year ago - and tho it didn't affect my shooting like yours - man did it hurt!

Take care, best wishes and hope the holiday break is OK for you. You and I know know what I mean.

not bad,,,,try writing with you left hand. bet you cant do as good.
hope you get better soon. merry christmas!!!!!!!!

I was trained at the academy to shoot with both eyes open. I was just messing around and holding my hand up like I was sighting. Since I am a lefty it seems like I would close my right eye to sight.

Go to a qualified doctor and get the shoulder taken care of.

Been to the doctor. Funny thing, he recently tore his Rotator Cuff to. Next step is an MRI I guess.

I wanted to do some rifle shooting today but I gave up that idea pretty quick.:uhoh:

When I tore the tendon from the bone in my left shoulder I went back to work (flying helicopters) for over six weeks before having it operated on. Then it was thirteen weeks before I could go back to work.

Injured shoulders sure hurt a lot.:(

I had to switch to lefty for handguns because of an accident where I lost the ends of the index and middle fingers on my right hand. I'm naturally left-handed, right eye dominant but I always shot righty.

I found that I shoot best (now) with both eyes open, but with my head turned slightly to the left to put my right eye in line with the sights.

I still shoot rifle/shotgun righty however (I pull the trigger with my ring finger). I never could get used to having a gun on my left shoulder.

I am a right handed, left eye dominant left hand shooter. I shoot with both eyes open but use my left eye to aim. Right eye is weak as hell and I can't see anything with any true clarity thru it.

Shoot both eyes open. Yes, you will be using you're dominant, right eye. This will work better for the stresses of combat because that's what you always do. If your right eye is damaged the choice will be easy and it will be easy to focus with your left.

I always have a problem shooting with my left hand and both eyes open. It seems I end up with a slight bend in my wrist to compensate for left arm/right eye alignment. This causes my arm to recoil a little to the right making getting back on target much slower. I haven't found a solution for this other than closing my right eye.

Thanks for the reminder that I need to practice more weak side shooting.

I was taught to shoot both eyes open. When I qualified "PPC" we shot with both hands. I still shot with both eyes open. Your dominant eye will want to take over but you can train your self to use both. Pactice with pointing your finger at the target and closing one eye at a time. You will see the point of aim change. Once you are use to adjusting to the left or right it just becomes habit. I can shoot virtually the same with either hand it is just a matter of disipline. Merry Xmas

I am right handed, right eye dominant. I usually shoot with both hands, with both eyes open, but practice both strong hand and weak hand. I had an elbow injury which prevented me from straightening my right elbow, so I concentrated on weak hand. Now that my elbow is better, I can shoot with either hand again, but I now shoot weak hand better than strong hand.

Merry Christmas Buck!

Good support hand shooting. I can tell you what I do, but it's so goofy I wouldn't recommend it. I'm a left handed person, but I carry right handed. Essentially when I started shooting handguns I sucked equally with both hands and just taught myself to shoot right handed because most guns are designed for that.

Thing is I'm also left eye dominant so I for quick combat shooting I'm going both eyes open, however when I'm going for precision I sight with my left eye. It's not as crossed up as it might seem and I don't think anyone would notice unless they were downrange.

With rifles though I shoot left handed so that I can use my left eye for sighting. Told you I'm goofy. The only consolation is that whenever I've had training classes where we shoot support hand I tend to shoot better than most since I'm already quite accustomed to using my left hand for various tasks.

I am left handed, and shoot hand gun left hand with my left eye, shoot rifle right handed(also swing a baseball bat right handed) and use my right eye.

The eye to sight with is the eye that is in best alignment with the gun...right eye when gun is in the right hand, left eye when gun is in the left hand.

Both eyes are kept open because it is more natural, comfortable, and doesn’t create fatigue the way keeping one eye closed does. Even if you keep both eyes open, you can only sight with one eye, because only one can be in alignment with the sights at a time.

I’m left handed and I find that when I shoot right handed I need to close my left eye because the double image cause by my dominant left eye is far more prominent than the double image caused by my right eye (when shooting left-handed) which is barely noticeable.

All these posts about how "easy" it is to shoot with both eyes open just make me laugh.

I can't do it.

I'm primarily left-handed, but usually shoot right-handed. Neither of my eyes is dominant. When I try to shoot anything with both eyes open, I don't just see two front sights; I also see two targets.

After working for years on learning to shoot with both eyes open, I realized that even if I learned how to do it as a range trick, there was no way, in a combat situation, that I'd ever be able to figure out which one of the multiple moving images was the "real" one.

Think about it...

So I quit trying. Now I just shut one eye when I shoot, and open it immediately thereafter to make sure no one is sneaking up on my blind side.

Left handed I use my left eye, right handed I use my right eye.

Works for freaks like me.

Pax this raises another question especialy close (7 yards and in) point shooting versus aimed shooting. Learn to point shoot and it don't make much difference. I can guarantee that if you are in a shoot situation BOTH eyes will be wide open. Happy New Year OH how'd your potato gun work?

I'm left eye dominant. I have thought I ought to just learn to shoot with my left hand all the time anyway.
