Where can I find a 6.8 AR barrel in 18 inches with a mid gas system?

Looking to build a 6.8 AR upper. I want to do a DMR setup with an 18 inch barrel and a mid length gas system threaded for flash hiders. Trying to stay under 200 dollars for the barrel as well. Also anyone know what this SPC II chamber is about? Which is better between 6.8 SPC and 6.8 SPC II?

They have three different 18" 6.8 uppers.

Not sure that one of them is exactly what you want, but there are three of the specified length there.

All three are labeled SPR, probably to give the impression that they are exactly for that role.

I don't know anything specific about the different 6.8 chambers, but from what I gather, the 6.8 Spec II is somehow better, and doesn't give anything up. I don't know how, or how much, but absent any other input, what I've read from Stag propaganda is that 6.8 II is slightly better in every way than 6.8 original.

Don't forget ARPerformance.

The SPCII specification is for an extended throat dimension, and 4-5 lands in 1 in 11 or 12 rifling. It reduces the peak pressures and gives more velocity. The new Barnes 95gr bullet is getting close to 3,000 fps from a 16" barrel.

The original SAMMI spec Remington got approved included a mistake on the digital blueprint that made it look like it had less throat dimension. It's about gone now, very few offer the old incorrect stuff, which also had 1 in 10 rifling. It's not horribly bad, it just can't use the better ammo largely available now.

6.8 is optimized for short barrels. It was designed for the 14.5 to 16" range, 18" won't bring much velocity increase to the table. It does offer other advantages in a build, such as using rifle length handguards and having a flash suppressor out there two more inches in front of the FSB. Functionally, not so much. The round is about out of effective steam at 500 yards, 600 is pushing the limit of ethical use on animals.

Note I said effective use - not max range. The point is lethality, which the 6.8 does very well, and why it's the #1 alternative to the 5.56. It's a wildcat, but so is any other caliber in an AR. Barrels, bolts, magazines, ammo, no one has a lock on a good supply for them from a lot of vendors, but the 6.8 does have dozens.

I recommend 6.8forums too, lots of info and help, lots there own other calibers too, so the conversations are level headed and real.
