Three questions:

1) Is there anyone still offering those Czech CZ-52 rifles chambered in 7.62x45? I remember several importers offering them a while back, but now I can't even find them on auction sites.

2) Does anyone know how they fair in the accuracy department?

3) If I do manage to find one of these rifles, are they C&R eligible?
I just received my C&R yesterday, after less than a three-week wait.

Thanks in advance.

I can only answer one of your questions. I have one, and it is fair in the accuracy department. It shoots slightly better than most SKS I have seen, but not as well as as my M1a or my Garand. Sorry, but I have never actually shot it on paper to see how it groups.

Each individual rifle is much like a lottery ticket anyway. If you get an average example, I don't think you will be disappointed.

It is an intriguing design, but seems a little heavy for the cartridge it fires.

Yup, it's a rifle.

And the rifle, chambered for either the 7.62x45 and later 7.62x39 is called the VZ-52, while the autopistol in 7.62x25 is the CZ-52.

Yes, it's C&R eligible. You don't see them anymore because they haven't been imported for quite some time, and some of those imports got black texture paint slathered all over them - to hide nasty or broken wood. There were only between 5,000 and 10,000 of them imported, compare that to SKS rifles or Mausers. Here's what one looks like when the wood is cleaned up:

Surplus, steel-cased 7.62x45 ammo has all but dried up. No problem, it's easy to handload for once you lay in a supply of formed brass. (I make and stock it) It uses the same 123gr bullets as the AK-47, and runs just fine on Accurate Arms #1680. See the above website, as posted by Sulaco. Accuracy, depending on the bore condition, can be pretty good. This one goes into about 2.0 - 2.5" at 100 yards with my 123gr handloads. They're pretty darned heavy little guns for the lightweight cartridge they shoot.

Pee Ess: Sulaco, thanks for plugging my website! :D

No problem Gewehr98. I knew about your VZ site because I was doing some research on the Russian guns. Nice site, by the way. I would love to be able to collect the old Russian stuff (I am Ukranian) but I am pretty much broke all of the time from other "afflictions". ;)
