I was in the LGS with my teenage son last week, and he has some money burning a hole in his pocket. He finds a used 4595TS with a scope and decides to buy - there is a 995 with the original stock in the cabinet, but he likes the rails so .45ACP it is.
While we are waiting on the NICS to come back, I am talking to the sales guy about Hi Points - he says we have 2000 back ordered, and hoping to see 1000 come in this year. He ordered something like 50 in each caliber in each configuration. I also bought a used 9mm that day, and when I went back the next week to pick it up (Peoples Republic of NY ) there is maybe 2 left of the 10 or so 4595s that were in the cabinet a week ago.
There are some people who really like to bash Hi Points, but I after shooting that 4595, I was worried. I felt kind of like I did after my first few rounds of trap - I knew for sure that I could run out of money before the fun factor was gone.
I think the 9mm HP is especially hard to find since most people that shoot one go looking for one to buy. Every other trip to the range I see people with HP carbines, and they all seem to really think they are worth the money and then some. They are ugly, hard to strip to clean and only moderately accurate, but the next time I see one in 9mm at the LGS I will be buying another.
