So I recently have had time to start shooting my first flinter. As know very little about flints, can anyone make a recommendation on what to look for in flints, and where are some good sources?

Thanks!

Tell them what lock you have and they will know what size you need. I have lost a few hours of my life at Friendship sorting through boxes of flints looking for good ones and still managed to pick a few that wouldn’t work well in the jaws of the cock. I’ve had much more success buying by the dozen from TOW.
Stick to natural English or French flints. The cut agate ones often leave a lot to be desired.

I use their "English flints, knapped by Tom Fuller". For some reason this damnable device has decided to not let me post links, but a search with that sentence should bring satisfaction. The website even suggests that the buyer tell them which gun is being used, and the best flints for it will be shipped. I have had perfect results.

I've had great results with the flints from Rich Pierce but I don't know if he still offers them. The best I've used otherwise are the black English Tom Fuller flints from Track of the Wolf, as mentioned above.

The French flints last a lot longer for me. The Tom Fuller English flints seem more fragile. The French flints last 80-110 strikes for my rifle.
