Need to buy some bulk "plinking" bullets in 224 for 223 , 22-250 and 220 Swift.

My own experience has mainly been with the premium stuff so your help is sought for this purchase.

I can get Speer 55 gn SP or Sierra 55 gn SPBT in bulk. The Speer is the cheaper of the two.

Anybody have a preference and if so, why?

I'm not in US and bulk (by the 1000) is limited to those two brands I've mentioned.

For most of my serious shooting I have been more than happy with Hornady V Max but the bulk bullets are being offered for less than half the price I pay for the Hornadys.

I've shot both and the Sierra may be the most accurate of the two(in my rifle), but the Speer is not much less accurate either. So it is really a toss up for me, depending on which my rifle shoots the best. I don't mind spending a few cents more for a more accurate bullet, but when they are as close as these two are, it is a toss up.

Check out the Varmint Express bullets at Midsouth Shooters Supply. I have had excellent results with these bullets for .223 and .22-250. You can get them in 50 or 55 grain and in sp or hp. I have not used any Speer bullets, but the Sierra's that you mentioned have given me superb results in my .22-250.

50g Midway Dogtown bullets are a pretty good deal right now. Hornady 40g Vmax 250 count are a little more accurate @ $35.99.

If I could get either of those at 1/2 price by the 1,000, I'd take the Sierra over the Speer even if they were slightly more. Now, if you included Hornady or Nosler B.T. I wouldn't be so quick to decide...................
