not sure, but i shoot an encore in 223 and to be honest, to even begin to unlock their accuracy potential you really should consider scoping it at some point. that being said i would check with this guy:

its ed at ed's tc and encore. very nice guy, very good prices. he sponsors greybeards outdoors, which has the only thompson contender and encore dedicated forum i've ever found. even have their own classifieds
Another for the optics camp - much as EER scopes bug the heck outa me - they do get my shooting into all but rifle class - even better often at 100 yds. I truly think that good scoping will be the way to realize the gun's amazing potential.
I think irons are just fine for the 357mag barrel, that's what I had on mine when I still had it. (reminds me, must find replacement 357 barrel) I have a 2X on my 41mag barrel right now, but as soon as I find the right load for it the irons are going back on. It'll be my "Tote Around While Fishing, That'll Teach That Nasty Old Snapping Turtle" gun.
I'm down to only 5, but I'm working on a 6th (300 Whisper), and I just bought a set 256win dies that I just have to get a barrel for. Dare I say it, I might just enjoy Contenderitis as much as...Cruffling.
