Which front swivel stud should I putthe Harris bipod on, the first or the second one?

Sorry for this novice question, but I never mounted a bipod before. I will buy the Harris bipod for my Savage 10FP. The forearm of this rifle has two swivel studs, and I don't know which one I should attach my harris bipod to, the one closer to the forarm tip or the one behind?

What is the convention? Any difference?

The front one, so you can use the rear one for the sling. My Harris Bi-Pod has a "swivel" built into it anyway, so it's rather redundant.

Bipod stud

Their are no dumb questions, We all started in the same situation. Never apologize, it's a sign of weakness. Now, you can do whatever you like. I have my Rem. 700 LTR set up like this and it seems pretty much standard. The front stud (colsest to the end of the barrel) is where the bipod goes. The rear stud (closest to the trigger housing) is where the sling, if any is used, goes. However, the bottom of the Harris has provisions for a quick detach sling swivel. You could if it works better for you attach the bipod to the rear stud and the sling, if any is used, to the bipod directly. Comes down to this, whatever works for you and personal preference. One other thing, when you install the bipod, make sure the legs point towards the front of the firearm. On recoil, when the firearm is fired, they can roll backwards slightly. If they're pointing to the rear then they can't.
