Which of these is the best "Cheap" .357?

I'd look for a Dan Wesson. I'd rate it above any of the above, and decent examples are often available between 3-400. Plus you can add additional barrels later.

Good suggestion, the Dan Wessons are a great value. I don't know if I would rate them above the Security Six but it is on par with it.

Maybe if you want blues get a Dan Wesson. If you want stainless get a Ruger Six series

build quality is better w DW, if nothing else, due to materials.

Bill Ruger's vision was to make a quality gun at a reasonable price. Dan Wessons were supposed to be "no compromise" guns.

That said, the Ruger is going to be easier to find and likely to be at a good price. Parts are easy as they are still made. Lots of accessories available. A great support system in place.

I LOVE the auction sites. Be careful, take your time and you will be able to find a nice Ruger at a nice price.

I've owned a Taurus 65 and deeply regret having sold it.
I've owned a Speed Six .357 and deeply regret having sold it.
I currently own a GP100 .357 and a Speed Six .38 and will not sell them.
I own a High Standard Sentinel Mk3 (Dan Wesson) .357 and will not sell it.
I don't think you'll go wrong with the Taurus or the Ruger.
The Ruger should last for many, many lifetimes.

To: the OP, "A Person"
If not already, you will see MANY references to the Ruger revolvers being built like, and as rugged as, a tank. Unfortunately, many leave out two words: German Panther. The "Panzer" was arguably the world's best tank, period. That's how the Rugers are made. So rugged that there exist "Ruger-only" loads (handload data). No sideplates. Investment cast. Way more metal in the castings than necessary. Ironically, that's also why they are less expensive, because once the castings are designed (and executed) most of the difficult and accurate work is done.

Yes, and I have several 'Sixes' and I sure WON'T sell them (nor some of my S&W revolvers.)

The GP100 is still produced so if offered the right price, yep sure will. But my 'Sixes'.... no... unless it's for HUGE bucks!
For HUGE bucks I'll even sell you the floor I stand on!

I also have more confidence in a used Ruger than either EAA or Taurus.

I would try to find a used Ruger if you can, something like the Security Six or the Speed Six, you might get lucky and find a GP100. You might also try Bud's Model 10's. I know you want a .357 and the Model 10 is a 38 but you should be able to use +P in it no problem. I have had a Rossi 461 in .357 and never got a chance to shoot it. I had to return it back for repair because of the firing pin constantly breaking and after 4 trips back I got rid of it.
Cain't go wrong with a good used model 10 or model 64 for the price. Shoot +p's and be quite well armed. For a budget of $400 buy the gun, some practice ammo, some +p's, and maybe even a holster and belt. (Then maybe Santa Claus could bring a used rock chucker and some dies and and he can start reloading.)

"Everything you really need, nothing you don't."

I agree. You don't have .357 capability, but something like Monster Zero is describing is much more likely to be found under $400 easily, if you don't have the time or patience to wait on a good deal.

If you have the time and patience... I think you can eventually find the deal.

$400 should get you a good revolver.
Heres what I've gotten this last year and not gone over $400.

S&W 28-4 4" .357 magnum highway patrolman. $389 off of gunauction.com
S&W commemorative 66-1 stainless 4" .357 revolver $379 off of gunauction
S&W Model 10 CUSTOM PPC revolver...at least $1k to build.... $359 off of gunauction
US Arms Co. .357 SAA 4 5/8" incredibly nice gun, as good or better than a ruger blackhawk....$255

Here are some examples of guns I would rather get for the money:
