having never owned a stainless gun only blued steel and have owned the ruger 1022 in blued with wood, at Walmart they have both the blued/wood plus the stainless/synthetic stock in which I really like the looks of! but wood is prettier but never owned a stainless steel gun so guys does the stainless not rust? plus how do you take care of it to keep it looking good? and which one to buy? ya'lls thought's, and which one you recommend?? thanks,:uhoh:

Stainless is highly rust resistant, but given enough neglect, not totally immune to surface staining.

In my experience with stainless Ruger & S&W revolvers, they show tiny surface scratches far worse then a blued gun.

But given a reasonable cleaning & wipe down?

They will still be going long after you & I will.

Stil, I prefer traditional blue & wood guns.

But, If I was going to buy a new 10/22 tomorrow?
It would be the new take-down version in stainless.

My only stainless rifle is a 10/22. Actually, the receiver and trigger assembly are brushed aluminum. The barrel is the only true stainless component on the rifle. It's very easy to maintain, and since all parts are brushed aluminum/stainless it doesn't show prints easily.

I really like the 10/22. So much so that I have little preference whether it's stainless or blued steel. Wood or polymer stock doesn't matter either.

Extra mags are a must. A few BX 25s are nice to have. Maybe add a scope and a bunch of ammo and call it good.

Wouldn't hurt a thing to try the stainless but literally I would the cheaper of the two. Treat all guns to same whether blue or stainless.

The stainless on a Ruger 10/22 and Mini 14 look like gray spray paint to me. If I can't shine it up with Flitz if I want then I'd rather have blued

Another 10/22 thread? I like it! I would get the blued one.

Maybe not as rust resistant as the stainless but looks a whole lot nicer.

If you intend to keep it basically stock - Between the 2 sold at walmart - I'd opt for the stainless one. The parkerizing on the new rugers isn't anything special IMO

Now if you intend to modify it at all say - a replacment barrel - then the blued one. and get a nice well blued aftermarket barrel. IMO noting is more handsome on a firearm than a deep bluing and walnut.

One of Santa's elves let it slip that I have the 50th anniversary 10/22 coming Christmas morning IF I continue to be nice and not naughty.

The receiver on both is aluminum the blued barrels have a receiver with a black paint on them which chips and peels off eventually showing white. SOME SS rifles used a gray paint, but most all are bare aluminum.

The blue or cheap wood stocks are nothing special on the blue versions. Might as well have the advantages of SS and sythetic stocks
