I have a new Rem 700 police in .308 with a VX-I 4-12 X40 Leupold. I plan on getting a Savage 93R17 BTV (the .17 hmr with the whizz bang thumbhole, etc). It will need a scope. I have about $200 to put toward a new scope.

The scope I have on the Remington is adequate for my needs which is largely shooting from the bench, no hunting. Up to now I've only been on a 100yd range, but plan on taking the Remington to a minimumm of 200 yds and out to about 600 yds.

My thought is maybe buying a Bushnell 3200 in 10X40 with a mildot and putting that on the .308 and put the Leupold on the Savage.

Any opinions?

Thanks. I know about the 10X and agree, I am just trying to throttle my recent bout of acquisitiveness short of dropping $800 on a scope OR trading off an excellent MC Operator. I need to sit on my wallet and my gun collection for a while. When you start wondering how much you can get for one kidney and a testicle, it's time to quit buying.

Anyway, with my luck, I'd sell a testicle and wind up with a paternity suit. So 10X is what I'll have to make do with for now.

Well...Its really a tough question for someone else to answer for you since beauty is in the eye of the beholder and since we can't tell you what feels right for you when you put your cheek to the rifle. That said, 200 for a high precision 308 scope is not alot, and you have suggested probly the best model for the money. The older that I get, the more value I see in leaving a scope (such as your fine leupold) alone on a rifle once I get it sighted in. I then consider this combo a "system" for good shooting that I have put together and I leave it alone. That in mind I would leave the Leupold on the Rem. and find something else for the 17. My 2 cents.

Well, you do have two of each...only need one of one and none of the other.lol

So lets do the math... one kidney + one testicle = S&B PMIII...hmmm!

Give up the alcohol and give up the....whoops, now lets think about this....

check out natchez.com...some killer deals on optics right now.

Rizbunk77: You are right on point, there is value in establishing a system and letting it run and I think I'll do that. For the .17 I'll put the 3200 on.

Uncle Mike: When I was a kid, my buddy wanted to grow up to be a brain in a jar, so he wouldn't ever have to take out the garbage or clean out the garage. Add a few tendrils and he could be a bench shooter. I guess I'm saying I might have figured out a way to afford a few more scoped rifles in the luxury class. But I'll need a gun boy.

The pain is only temporary, the equipment is a legacy that keeps on giving.

I found a Mexican company that makes prosthetics to make the jeans look more balanced; PM if you need the info.

With posts like this so early in (22 so far), I think you are going to fit in just fine around here.
