Looking for a spotting scope stand. Years ago, Ray-Vin seemed to be a favorite (they're now cloned at hic-tec.com). But there's been no relevant discussion on this topic, here, for four or five years now.

Considering what's available today (2024), what would you recommend?

Colonel, what discipline are you shooting?
Across the course, prone only, off the bench?

Watch this post as I may edit in, more info.

My experience has been prone, sitting, kneeling, standing & bench.
Pictured is my ancient Ewing stand I used and later added the Ray-Vin head. The head is great.

When ray-Vin came out with their stand, I immediately saw the advantage of the legs swiveling to the "pointing up" position.
This makes it a smaller manageable package. The "clamp onto your stool" options is a great feature.
Pricy as these items are, I stuck with what I had. The Ewing stand does allow you to lower your scope so close to the ground a passing cricket could spot for you. That white Delrin washer was added to keep the scope outta the dew. (and crickets)

I'm guessing an extra section of post would be handy for standing position & bench work. At the bench I use the stand on the ground for the 88 mm scope.

Ewing stand with Ray-Vin Head. No scope attached. ...................Hic-tec base. Nice tool to set your tightness.
Really low to the ground. Legs fold downward.
Places scope too close to shooter in prone.
The legs are 12" long. Like the Hic-Tec better.

Hic-Tec pretty short 1st section....................Total Eclipse Option has adjustable prone set up.
Might want another section ......................... Keeps stands legs out of your operating area.

Well I was all set to spring for the Hic-Tec version of the old Ray-Vin stand, despite their insistence to charge me sales tax (I bet they're in California), but the only payment method they accept is Paypal. What a shame, it looks like a nice rig.

OK I need to update my last post. I emailed them and they will take a check, or your credit card over the phone: 251-423-1618 if you're interested. I'll write a review of this very expensive stand once it arrives.
