I want a nice mid caliber rifle for my safe. I've got a .22 and a .308 already and would like one that fits between those calibers.

I've decided on one of the below two. But can't seem to be able to pick between them. They are both priced about the same. Would appreciate your thoughts and opinions on them in the specified calibers.

That CZ is just gorgeous. The 550FS in .30-06 is the first thing I am buying after my "assault-rifle-buying-frenzy" is over with.

You said you wanted a rifle for your safe, but hopefully you're going to shoot it at things too. Any things in specific that you need to effectively kill with it?

WHILE the remmy is nice, a cz , with a set trigger , is like butta, also for a rifle typically under 600 bucks, any cz you get, in any caliber, is likely to be more accurate than any other mass produced rifle. Also with cz comes the element of surprise; the wood runs from very nice, to OH MY GOD , THATS BEAUTIFUL!!!
just have the guy open up more than 1 box, to get a look at the wood.
Also, you can still find milsurp swiss ammo at gunshows, and it will not only be cheaper than 270 ammo, but because the swiss were so good at anything they made, it will be darn near match quality.
CZ it is, that is why i have 4.

I'd go with the 270. A rifle isn't any good without ammo and the 6.5mm could be real hard to find in the near future. Of course I'd even pass on the 270 as being to close to the 308 in performance. I think I'd be looking a bit lower at maybe a 243 to split the difference. Just the way I'd roll.

That Remington, at least in .270, isn't going offer much less recoil (if any) than it would in .308. The bullet weights will be close too. I'd go with the CZ based on caliber alone, not to mention it's a beautiful gun, and more reliable than the Remington 750. You might also consider a rifle chambered in .260 Remington. .260 Rem is the .308 Win necked down to 6.5mm, so you get the advantages of a 6.5mm bullet in a short action with light recoil.

If it's just for the safe, it doesn't matter. Is there any kind of special purpose you are wanting to fill???
