I came across this article http://www.nationalreview.com/corne...le-now-legal-new-york-state-charles-c-w-cooke that they now have NY state legal ar-15's. Does anyone know who makes these? I am wondering if they are made by reliable companies like smith and wesson, colt, rock river arms ect or less well known brands? I am also wondering if I move to another state in the future where normal ar-15's are legal, can these be converted back to a regular ar-15 easily?

Ar-15s can be legal with a removable magazine and a Thordsen stock or with a pinned magazine and a regular stock. The silly SAFE law has other requirements, but most local gun dealers will have NY-legal guns from a variety of manufacturers or put together by a local gunsmith.

Me, I hated the look of the Thordsen but got used to it. The removable mag is just easier to load. The biggest problem is getting the cheek plate on the buffer at the right height for the sights/scope.

I have no experience with them but there's a place in Dansville NY that builds and sells NY compliant AR's. You can check them out on the web at: www.Hyperionarmsandammo.com Folks I've talked to have told me they are very knowledgeable when it comes to all the complicated legal mumbo jumbo that goes along with the safe act.

Yeah there's a gun shop near me that makes one just like that. AX Tactical. Also several sporting goods stores near me sell models similar to that one.

There's also other NY legal AR options. Check out FightLite Industries SCR. I own several. You can just buy the lower and put other AR uppers on it.

If you have a AR with no flash hider/muzzle break and bayo lug you can get a "spur" to replace the pistol grip. Then use 5 or 10 rnd mags loaded to 7. I have one on my Mossberg MMR Hunter 20" barrel and its fine. I'd rather have this and be able to use any detachable mag in a emergency then make it a fixed "top loader". Bullet Buttons are illeagle in NY AFAIK. Better yet get a Ruger Mini 14/30, SKS, Saiga, or featureless AK and stick a Saiga butt stock on. Just stay with 10 rnd mags.

With the thordsen stock does it have more recoil since the buffer tube is not connected to the stock?
