So far in my competition endevours I've used my full-size 9mm that I normally use for HD.

I'm thinking about taking a session or two and shooting with my G26 EDC just for kicks. I know IDPA has a subcompact category but I'm not sure about USPSA.

Anyway all the recent talk here about smaller pistols that folks claim to carry and be expert marksman with has got me wanting to see what the real world has to say, as well as test my mediocre abilities.

So, who shoots any comps with your subcompact EDC?

I carry a compact, found that good leather, good belt and loose t-shirts let me carry substantially larger sidearms than I ever expected. But, in the spirit of the thing, I have been on/off wanting to get a Ruger EC9S for a BUG, and I could see that being an interesting one to use in a match.

Every once in a while I'll shoot one of my Walther PPQs (down-loaded) in CCP in IDPA.

About the only time I shoot my sub compact (Walther PPS) is in a BUG match. We do have one guy now that shoots a 26 and another with a downloaded 19 regularly in CCP.

Mostly now I'm shooting ESP with a CZ75 "Accu-Light" Shadow from CCZ Custom, but I also shoot PCC, SSP (M&P 5" Pro) and sooner or later I'll break out my Baer and shoot CDP. It's nice to mix things up.

I ran my Glock 30 in USPSA production, concealed like I always carry it with IWB holster. The RO's were always swarmed around watching closely when I reholstered and I got tired of hearing about how close I was to muzzleing my leg even though I was never DQ'ed for it in 6 matches. I switched to a 17 in a paddle holster but never shot it as well as my EDC. I stopped comps shortly thereafter.

Glock 26 is an excellent choice. It is sub-compact that shoots like a full size gun.

USPSA has no "carry gun" or "compact" division. However, if you ask around, you may find that some of the clubs that run USPSA matches may occasionally also run an outlaw carry-gun match. Or they may periodically run a match with stages designed to be manageable with carry-type guns. And, of course, there are a subset of people who simply use their carry gear in regular USPSA matches. They accept the disadvantage (which is very real) in order to get the benefits of pressurized practice and shooting in diverse and challenging situations (which is also very real) with their carry gear.

That's a shame, because the rules don't prohibit sweeping your lower extremity during the draw or re-holstering. A lot of IWB guys will sweep their weak hand (which is a DQ) during re-holstering because they are using their weak hand to move their gun or open up the mouth of a too-floppy holster or the like. But allowing the muzzle line to intersect with your leg during holstering? Not a DQ. Here's the rule:

10.5.5
Allowing the muzzle of a handgun to point at any part of the
competitor’s body during a course of fire (i.e. sweeping).
10.5.5.1 Exception –
A match disqualification is not applicable for
sweeping of the lower extremities (below the belt) while drawing or
re-holstering of the handgun, provided that the competitor’s fingers are
clearly outside of the trigger guard. This exception is only for
holstered handguns. Sweeping does not
apply to a handgun holstered in compliance with Rules 5.2.1
and 5.2.7.

Yeah, Galco royal guard so never a problem with that reinforced top. I enjoyed running my off duty gun far more than a holster outside the belt. It was a lot more fun thats for sure. I get enough open carry at work and wanted some plain clothes fun. I could smile and nod at all of the "advice" but what ultimately killed it for me was on-call weekends.

I shoot with them, quite a bit actually (roughly 100 to 150 rds a week).

Just not in formal competition.

That's an excellent idea though.

I shoot my Kahr cw9 in bug matches. We have an older guy(78) that shoots a j frame in steel matches. His favorite saying Ive Only 5 shots so don't miss.

Ive shot my Sig 365 in IDPA and an outlaw steel challenge match. Shot in SSP in IDPA since I could load the mags all the way up even though there is a BUG division. Actually did pretty well with it, finished 7th out of 42 shooters. Steel challenge was a lot harder due to all the drawing, only had an IWB holster to use, but still did pretty well finishing 7th out or 30 some shooters. The 365 shoots like a much bigger gun than it is, but that short sight radius will really make you pay attention to your sight picture and trigger press.

I have shot un-sanctioned USPSA and steel matches with a Charter Bulldog. It was however, quite a workout. At least all the other guys got a good laugh out of it. The guy who started The Gun Zone website joked about shooting USPSA with a Bulldog. One of the guys on his squad said "the cylinder will fall out somewhere around Stage 3...." Amazingly it did not.
