Gosh - I hope it was even this forum (or czforum.com?). Somebody posted a thread with pics of the polishing job they did on their pistil. They polished the barrel breech (what's visible to us on the slide) and the hammer.

Was that here on THR???

Gary, as I recall, there have been hundreds of polished breeches and hammers in pictures. Do you recall which pistol model it was? That would help narrow it down a lot.
