Why all the craze of single stacks ?

What's with all the "older" comments? I'm old, I prefer a double stack and that is one reason why I purchased my last handgun over a single stack; it felt more comfortable. My hands did not shrink as I aged (my hair did).
If someone prefers a single stack or even a single shot; go for it.

While shooting my Ruger P95 on Monday I realized a couple of things.

Shooting with both hands was of course no issue.

Shooting one handed with my dominant hand really wasn't an issue, but I didn't feel as comfortable due to the grip width.

Shooting with my non dominant hand, either two handed or one handed, I wasn't confident at all. One handed I was not happy at all trying to shoot as my grip didnt feel that solid. (To be fair my right elbow/forearm has been sore and my feel feels weaker so that could be part of it)

Now when I last shot one handed or with my non dominant hand using my Shield I felt more confident. The stronger hold on the narrower grip made all the difference.

My guess is that the high end, quality steel framed pistols are due up be pushed onto the train next.
Reading through all the posts, I want to holler out, “Sig, release a steel-framed HD version of the P938! Please. I guarantee you will sell at least two. Or maybe three! To me!”

Ruger P95 ! What a workhorse !

Simple- single stack = thinner, which = easier to conceal. This is important in places like Fl, where "summer wear" is pretty much "year round wear".

Exactly, I live somewhere that has the seasons: Hot-Hell-Warm. All the "Winter Carry" nonsense is lost on me too... :D

Living in maine, Winter carry can be a ak47 pistol under a carhart jacket. Our summers get pretty warm. 90's and muggy. Most people i know have 2 carry pistols. Winter and summer. Fall and winter, full size. and spring and summer, compact. hard to hide a full size in shorts and a light t shirt. I switched to the glock 19 all year long.

Single stacks are typically more comfortable to me.
The usually thinner grips feel better and are more comfortable to shoot, meaning I shoot them more accurately.

Why all the craze of caring what tool other people use to do a job?

I'm just asking a question like others do on here. If you don't like it then move on .

I didn't realize single stacks were that common. For me there isn't any benefit, my 365 is as thin and smaller in other dimensions as a single stack. It makes my Taurus 709 look large. If I want a larger grip I can use a 12 or 15 round mag.

These are the only single stacks that I own .. Glock 43 and a Taurus TCP 380

My go to pistol is my Glock 27 ..

But I find myself carrying the 43 more often in the hotter months AIWB .
The TCP is pocket carry...

I have 10 double stack pistols vs
2 single stack ...
I carried my 43 mostly this week with a +2 extention

I live in a small town ... Like alot of towns in the Appalachian Mtns ,
meth heads , opioid abuse are out of control.... in my little town at a red light less than a mile away a shoot out ...
On my way from work day before yesterday in A seemingly perfect neighborhood.. a van ran me off a the street .... 5 Police cars were in chase .. the guy crashed the van , jumped out and was being chased on foot ... Later I heard he was armed and dangerous..

I have had several " run ins " in my life .. and Im a quite and cautious guy . I work 5 miles from my home... A fellow never knows whats around the corner..
Needless to say ... When Im not in my work place .. Im armed ...

wow guess I must be unusal but I am over 70 with big hands and absolutely LOVE my double stack Mod2 for CCW, sometimes in an inside belt holster or sometimes in pocket holster. Note my LEO son doesnt even know when or how I am carrying. He is bigger than me but wants a single stack. I say find what is comfortable no matter the brand or stack size. If you are comfortable with carrying it then no one will notice because you will not be broadcasting.

For me, with below average sized hands, I have had to accept that a double stack doesn't work for me. I've gone through a number of them over the years seeking a pistol of high capacity (12+ rounds) that I can shoot well. It ain't happening. I can shoot my Shield or a 1911 (slim grips, short trigger, flat MSH) very well but thus far a double stack just doesn't cut it. I've given up the hunt and will content myself with making good hits with a single stack.

Sounds like an ideal candidate to try the Sig 365 or 365 xl. Too small for my above average hands, but perhaps good for you.

I have Ruger and Walther Semi Autos as well as an old Colt 1903...I really like a grip safety but the old colt is actually too small for my hand as I often fail to engage the grip safety enough...so the XDs. I do admit it is fun shooting a hundred year old firearm!

I carry a single stack (plain Jane Shield) because I’m lazy, want to be comfortable, and shoot it well. There, I said it! I do always carry a spare mag, so I have 16 rounds with me.

Ideal, no. I’ve carried off duty every day for almost 15 years now and only had to draw once.

I won’t mention what I carry for black bear protection while changing elk around with a bow; it’s lazy to the point I’m considering going with something a bit more substantial...
