why no 100% american made ak rifles?

hey, larry could not clear the simple stove pipe jam because his hand was shot or he was to shot up to think straight.
 
There was a well founded rumor at one time of Savage making an all US made AK, but the price point of imports (and the 'work around' of 922r & the now expired assault weapons ban) that made this more a matter of intellectual curiosity than an actual business plan.
 
i was just asking why no one has capitalized on how cheap and easy it would be the make the excellent akm rifle from scratch in the usa.

It may not be as cheap or easy as you think. It would take a very large initial investment just to tool up to do it. It will take a long time to make that money back. If you are easily undercut by cheaper guns (and there are plenty of cheaper guns out there) then there is no guarantee you will ever make it back. It is likely a better return on investment to source foreign parts (or at least as many as you can). I know one S12 builder said they looked at making domestic guns and it just was not economicallyu viable.
