Why was the PC9 discontinued?

I had one as well as a companion p95, both of which I sold. The reasons I think it got discontinued are:
1)It uses Ruger mags and for the most part people who buy 9mm carbines don't have/like Ruger pistols.
2)Too heavy for what it is.
3)Expensive compared to the Keltec which folds and takes common mags from more desirable pistols.

I,too, have a PC9 and would not trade it. I do however see why it was discontinued.

Looks like I will have to buy some spare parts.

Why The Ruger Did Not Sell

It used to be, you could choose a hard kicking, deer caliber rifle or a compact, pistol caliber, light recoiling, short range carbine that could only be used for plinking or self defense.

Now we have .223 caliber carbines like the AR-15 that a very accurate, light recoiling, compact, with several times the range and many times the number of options (lights, grips, lasers, i.e...) and cheaper, fun .223 caliber carbines like the MINI-14. You can pick up a MINI-14 for $100.00 more, sometimes almost the same price as a RUGER PC-9.
There are also cheap 7.62 x 39 mm rifles like the AK-47 clones which used to sell for half the price of the RUGER PC-9.
Then there are the SKS carbines which can be bought for a quarter of the price of a RUGER PC-9.

All this and a high price makes the RUGER a hard sell.

Oh, I have shot the BERETTA carbine. It seemed ok till I tried it side by side with an 9mm AR-15. No comparison. The AR-15 handled better and grouped into half the size of the BERETTA.

several thoughts,,,

is it me or is ruger comitting suicide by dicontinueing kinda like colt did???

just had a look at thier line up pared doesnt say it! the pc's are the only things they dropped jeeze.most here gave good reasons for dropping the pc9.

if someone makes a 45acp 16"bbl carbine with mag adaptors for;1911mags,glock21 and h&k 45s and its reliable and reasonably priced,he wont make them fast enough to keep up with sales!!!

the marlin crap rifles were junk i owned 2 and after the 2nd one broke a hammer i never owned another.

if remington makes a 76 mag fed in 308 with m14,met fal mags.ill buy 1 asap.

Its just a fun gun to shoot

I bought a PC9 about 3 years ago for about 450.00. The reason was just for plinking. The ammo then was dirt cheap, now I reload 9mm to keep the cost down. With a red dot sight this gun is very accurate to about 50 yards. It would not be the first gun I would choose in a home defense situation. I guess at 450 new it is like a Ruger 10/22 on steriods. One other thing, some people are complaining about the weight of the gun. Its not that heavy, how far are you carrying it?
