Senate Bill 705 /House Bill 1264, would create a new concealed carry permit option in Tennessee that would make it more accessible for Tennesseans to exercise their right to self-defense. The new permit will allow for concealed carry only and will not apply to higher education campuses. Further, the training required in the bill can be a hunter education course or firearm safety course, and can be taken online. By creating a new concealed carry permit, Tennesseans are able to choose which permit option is best for them and their lifestyle in order to exercise their constitutional right to self-defense. Senate Bill 705 is scheduled for consideration in the Senate Finance Ways and Means Committee. House Bill 1264 is scheduled for consideration in the House Finance, Ways, and Means Committee.

Why? I'll throw this out....

It is the first step to no permit required?

Idaho's concealed weapon permit is basically a hunters safety course, NRA course, etc.; nothing directly attributed to a concealed carry course. However, they do offer an enhanced permit that requires some time at the range and in a classroom; how much time for both, not sure.

So when they passed the law a few years ago allowing no permit for concealed carry (for residents) some basically said there was hardly any requirement for a permit anyway so no big outcry against the non-permit carry.

Maybe this is the senator(s) way of sneaking into the non-permit issue?

But personally, I would not see a problem with it.
