Assembly Bill 35, or "Castle Doctrine" is up for a vote today in the Wisconsin State Assembly. You can watch the progress of the Assembly here: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/insession/assembly/index.htm

AB35 is the third bill up for a second reading on the agenda.

I urge everyone in Wisconsin to contact their state Assembly Members to show their support for this bill. If you do not know who your represntatives are, go here: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/ and at the bottom center of the picture of the Capitol, is a link called "WHO REPRESENTS ME?"

Our fight for concealed carry in Wisconsin has been a long one, and we still have a difficult road ahead of us, but passage of pro-self defense legislation like this, aside from its other obvious merits, can help set the tone for the state for ALL self defense issues, and leave us with more "fertile ground" for CCW in general.

Hasn't Governor Doyle, and not the legislature, been the main roadblock for these types of bills in the recent past? Are there enough votes for a veto override?

I don't know.

It's rather hard to get a read on our Governor when there isn't any money in it for him.

It's 4:40 pm, and the Democrats are now just coming out of caucus. So, they may be having problems with members willing to vote for this bill.

I really doubt that the bill will get a vote in the Senate. It would take a ton of pressure from gun owners, and even then I don't know if Judy Robson would cave in.

THE WISCONSIN STATE ASSEMBLY
STANDS ADJOURNED UNTIL WEDNESDAY,
MAY 16, 2007 AT 11:00 A.M.

Must be nice, being able to dictate your own work schedule like that...

Unfortunately, I agree with Monkeyleg. It will be an uphill battle in the Senate, assuming it even reaches the floor. And after that, should Doyle veto it, it's probably not going to have enough steam to get a veto override.

This fight is still important though. We need to push as hard as we can anyway in the vein of "We will never go away until we get what we want." that works so well (eventually) for all sorts of other causes.

*******UPDATE*******

It looks as though AB35 PASSED the Assembly on a quick voice vote, and we may not have a good record of who actually supported us.

We still have a uphill battle in the Senate, or we'll see it tabled, pigeonholed, or killed outright by the Senate leadership.

If it does pass the Senate, still be on gaurd and keep up the pressure. As happened with the PPA, it's quite likely some "supporters" only vote for pro self-defense and pro-gun bills knowing that the fix is in, and someone has signed up to "take the fall" in exchange for something from the Governor's Office, or the party leadership.
