Next Wednesday the state senate is going to debate SB214, the Personal
Protection Act concealed carry bill, and will then vote on the bill.

While it's certain to pass, we need to make sure we have enough votes to
override Governor Doyle's expected veto. If we can get that number of votes
on the first go-round, it will make it easier to retain those votes for the
override session later on.

A large turnout of gunowners in the gallery will help put pressure on those
senators who claim to be pro-gun. Nothing makes a legislator's heart pound
harder than seeing scores of registered voters watching him vote.

If at all possible, please try to make it to the Capitol on Wednesday. The
gallery is on the third floor. Use the South elevators. The bill should come
up sometime after noon. If you arrive early, use that time to visit your
legislators' offices to tell them to vote for the bill and for the veto
override.

The veto override vote is going to be extremely close and, while we think
there may well be the votes needed to override, we cannot take chances. We
need to utilize every tactic available to achieve victory.

So please make every effort to be there for this historic vote.

Got my form letter back from Rep. Staskunas today.

Essentially he says he would support CCW if... if... if... if...

My favorite weasel-out of his is that there's no marksmanship requirement. I'm tempted to write back about how ironic it is that a Democrat would discriminate against the handicapped, the elderly, and the poor who can't practice marksmanship like the rest of us.

I also loved how quick he was to point out his prior support for Wisconsin's RKBA ammendment that passed a few years back. Like I'm supposed to believe that wasn't just a gimme to try and placate blue-collar union deer-hunters in the district, but votes against CCW the first time he's actually presented with a bill that gives RKBA some real tangible daily meaning.
