Well mama got the urge today since the toy store hand a sale this week. Soooo off we go. Incredibly busy for a sunday, but she got to fondle a few very nice pistols. She was looking to just handle a few different pistols to see which one she likes. Now I do have a decent selection and she does have a BHP at OnTarget getting some work done, but this her first selection. She tried a couple Sigs, CZ Rami, CZ 75, XD SC9, and many more. She finally got to the case with the H&K's, Para Ordinance, and Kimbers. She liked the Para LDA 3.5" and the H&K USP compact. After much thought, she decided on the H&K USP compact 9mm. Pretty good taste don't you think? :D She has not shot it yet as the "Instant" background check hit a snag.:banghead: The salesman warned her not to be alarmed because 50% of the computerized checks had failed today. Kidda' silly since you have to have a permit to purchase a pistol anyway, but that's another story:rolleyes: Any thoughts on how she did for her first pick? I stayed clear while she made the choice (I personally liked the LDA, of course I'm a 1911 fan). I just kept telling her "It's up to you. You will be the one shooting it." I don't think she will be "under gunned" with a 9mm, beside it will make a nice backup to my 1911.:D

My wife picked her first pistol last weekend. She ended up with an XD9. Haven't shot it yet, need to get a babysitter soon.. Completed all the paperwork on her own while I was looking at other pistols. Tell your wife "Congrats" on the purchase.

Ron

ps. I told her "honey pick anything you want" The counter guy at Cabelas laughed and said I could called him honey if I would buy him a pistol.

If my wife went looking to pick out a gun it would be pink and have lace somewhere on it.

Your wife did real good.

she did a great job, and kuddos to you for stepping back and letting her get what SHE wanted, and not what you thought she should have. Great job to both of you, and happy shooting!

Not sure what to make of this, but when it came time for my wife to pick a handgun for her concealed carry class (and subsequent carry) I let her 'shoot my gunsafe', and she settled on the CW9 I originally bought with her in mind.

So... either I know my wife pretty well, or she really didn't want to go gun shopping.

wow, you got her to pick out her own gun.

My girlfriend treats guns like T-shirts. She only likes one once i've used it and have fallen in love with it. We went to the toy store one day and she got a Ruger 9mm compact. Sure enough, when we got to the range she put exactly one box of ammo through it and then confiscated MY sig 229. I think that was the last time I saw that gun, or was allowed to shoot it.

If she picked a gun that points naturally for her then she did well. Remember that the key phrase for purchasing a gun is "If it fits, it hits".;)

My wife points CZs. Ginger points a 1911. Karyn points a S&W.

Mine's first pick was a Walther P5. Then a P38, a BHP, Taurus 24/7 and now a Colt Govt. in 9mm. She liked the ease of the recoil springs when chambering a round on the Walthers but preferred the single action trigger of the 1911 and HiPower. She shoots the Taurus and 1911 almost exclusively now.

She had at one time picked up an H&K USP full size, but she didn't shoot that well with it and sold it to a girlfriend of hers.

Range report update

We went to the range this afternoon and my wife put some lead down range:D She ran 200 WWB + 13 Hornady 147gr XTP through the USP and she still has not stopped smiling:D :D I'll post some pix a little later, but the look on her face was priceless. Bigger s**t eating grin than I've seen on any kid in the candy store. She shot from 7yrds and put a nice ragged hole just to the upper left of center. She did a couple of double tap drills starting from the double action state and was hitting COM on IDPA targets with ease. The double action pull is a little stiff yet, but the single action is, in her words "sweeeet!" She let daddy shoot it for a couple mags and it is a nice shooter. A little snap cap work and she can get the double action trigger to lighten a bit. All the ammo fed perfectly and pistol performed flawlessly. A couple of my shooting buds showed up just as we were about to leave and said, "Hey, is that an H&K? Can we fondle it?" Of course that made my wife's smile even bigger! She let them shoot it and they were impressed. The best part is she picked it out herself and really likes it. Now it's holster time! I picked up a cheap DeSanti leather IWB that will work, but she needs some more input from the ladies on the forum to get one to fit a little better.
