I have been trying to get her to try shooting for almost 40 years. She turns 65 next month and has fired exactly 2 rounds through a 20 ga shotgun. She carries a Sig 365 and I can get her to practice just enough that I feel somewhat comfortable with her carrying, but she has been intimidated by shotguns.
A good friend of ours, a deputy sheriff, here is battling cancer and the local Shrine club sponsored a turkey shoot to raise money. I was going and convinced her to try.
We went into the back yard and after a little coaching on how to load and chamber a round and basic etiquette around others with a gun she decided to fire one shot. The recoil didn't kill her, so when we got to the turkey shoot she fired one round. She didn't win but was thrilled she even hit the target.
She took photos of her target and started texting them to our kids and everyone else she knows. When we got home the target is now on the refrigerator. A place normally reserved for grandkids artwork.
Just thought I'd share.
