Well, the wife and I finally got to go trap shooting yesterday for her first trip out.

Cold as all get out over at PGC, but very few people there when we arrived at 10am. The one other group that was there was kind enough to go over to the other open range while I gave my beloved a beginner's lesson a la Dave McCracken.

I brought the 870 as well as the Mossie 500, though I only brought the 500 to have Larry in the shop look at it to make sure I had reassembled it correctly (just didn't "feel" right, though Larry said it was OK).

The wife rented one of the Beretta single shots and I set her up with some of the Winchester AA 26 gram #8 shells (boy they are reaaallllly light loads, hardly a peep out of them).

She did one round by herself with me manually firing the birds and managed to get two clays.

Then we shot two rounds together with her getting as many as 6....a couple were complete dust:cool:

Then two other gents showed up...one seemed like a beginner. Beloved wife held her own until the last half of the round when the two fellas started hooking up and really busting clays. She was a little worn out on the 4th round as she was now using the Wally World Federals with 1 1/8 ounce #8 shot. I ran out of the light loads....whoops

I'm happy to say I got as many as 21 in my 3 rounds but it was good to see my little wife handling that shotgun with relative comfort. She can regularly outshoot me with a .22 pistol thanks to copious amounts of practice courtesy of Uncle Sam...at least I'm still better at something (for now anyway!)

Good time had by all... :D

Good now next time you meet up with my wife you can convince her that she needs to shoot some trap too :) She just ignores me for some reason.

It's funny....I suspect that it will be just like when I got my first rifles. Wife begged to go do it....and it was like, "Well I checked that off of my list."

She loves to shoot handguns...and she's really good at it too. I haven't seen her today to ask her if she's sore or not...that will be the true measure.

I believe we should have a girls' day out for one of our THR meets......maybe this Summer?

Glad to see this, Norton. Sorry I wasn't there.

FYI, those trap singles at PGC weigh as much or more than the Mossie. If she can handle one of those, she can handle a pump.

I may be able to get to PGC this Sunday Morn for a few rounds. I'll bring the little NEF....

Dave,

We I gave her the Beretta for a couple of reasons....most important was that I like shooting my 870:D

Also, I hadn't field tested the Mossberg and was also a bit unsure about the re-assembly (turned out it was OK)

I didn't want her to deal with potential equipment problems on the first time out....in the future the Mossberg will be "hers".

We're tied up all day Sunday with a birthday party and a concert....I'll probably be able to start getting out on a regular basis come the first weekend in March
