Howdy, everybody;

I've become enamored of the Wiley XL-1 Interchangeable sunglasses/goggles lately, and, considering the recent Oakley-glasses thread, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Wiley stuff and would care to share their knowledge of the products.

For interests' sake, I'm considering purchasing an XL-1 package that includes clear lenses (for use on the range as safety-glasses, since the polycarbonate lenses fit the Z87-somethingorother standard) and smoke-green lenses (for use as sunglasses, since the website says that their lenses are rated for complete UV-protection). Later on, when I've saved up a little more dough, I'll also snatch up some of their slick, grey polarized lenses, to make better sunglasses.

Well, if they are like the old SG-1 glasses they may not fit you unless you use the strap.

They can fog up too, which can be irritating, but are better than issue sun, wind, whatever goggles.

I use their wraparound sunglasses, they work all right.

The saftey rating is a big plus for me.

For a while I was buying a lot of different sunglasses looking for "the ones". I picked up a pair of Wiley-X shades and haven't worn anything else since. I have Oakleys, Nike, Carrera, Spy, and Killer Loops all sitting in their boxes. :cool:

HighVel,

What is it about the Wileys that you like more than the Oakleys, Nikes or Killer Loops?

I've been using them about 8 years now. Somebody brought them to the range at work and quoted a price that was good. I bought a pair and have been sold ever since. In fact I even wear them everyday as sunglasses. They don't make the model I orginally bought but I currently have a set of Lobo's. I'll buy another pair may be the best endorsement I can give them.

I've got a pair of PT-1s. The first lens, I was pleased with. It stayed in the frame. Then I was an idiot and my FAL rear sight hit them hard enough to make a gouge. I'm glad they stopped the sight from hitting my eye, but I had to replace the lens. Annoyingly, the replacement won't stay in the frame for more than an hour at a time. It went so far as to fall out while I was bicycling the other day. :fire:
I havn't yet had a chance to call Wiley-X about it. If they're willing to do something, then I'll be 100% satisfied with them.

If you've had them for less than a year, I think it's still under warranty (how do you spell that?), but otherwise, you might have to pay. If you send them the lens back, they might replace it for free or a modest fee. Y'probably oughta shoot them an Email before y'do anything.

I use the XL-1s because they fit my face pretty well, my buddy uses the SG-1s because they fit his face better. I like the XL's over the SGs because they look more sunglassy and are not as flexy, but they do tend to fog up, and the strap system is almost worthless, it keeps wanting to come off. I wrapped little black rubber bands around the connectors on the temples to keep them from slipping off and it seems to work better. I also do not care for the band only mode, as it leaves most of the temple on so you do not gain much. The SGs have a better band system. I understand the SG's had a breakage problem that has been fixed.

Overall I like my XLs but because of their form fit, I would try them (and the SGs) on first before buying.
