I have a Springfield Armory Scout squad rifle, 18 inch barrel. I want to mount a forward optic (prob an Aimpoint), and I want to make sure it will mount low enough I do not have to use a cheek rest.

Will an Ultimak rail do this for me? Will it be lower than the factory rail on the Scout Sqad?

No, but its what I would use, if I got another M1A.

I had a SOCOM with the Scout rail, and I didnt like it at all. I like the idea of the forward mounted rail, just not Springfields execution of it. It got way to hot, stayed hot, and the optics sat way to high. The fact it wasnt mil spec was another annoying issue.

Ive had Ultmaks on a couple of AK's for about 15 years now. They make quality stuff. They dont get hot, and any heat generated, is quickly shed. I can also cowitness my irons with my Aimpoints.

Do a search for "M1a Ultimak Aimpoint" on google, and then click "images". Lots of pics to look at.

Heres what my SOCOM looked like with an Aimpoint on it for comparison......
