Will this work and be OK?

Mounting a new scope on my old Savage 116 7mm Rem Mag with a flat back scope mount and I have run into a dilemma with my front scope mount and keeping my rings on the tube.

Is that enough contact with the mount? I have a rail I can use but it raises the scope a good 1/4" + higher off the barrel..

i would not trust it, and that would bug me.

If your in a cross slot that should hold, it's not ideal tho. I'd probably opt for using the rail.

I agree it is probably OK but I know myself and it would bug me too.

Don’t worry about raising it up an extra 1/4” unless it effects cheek weld or comfortable shooting.

Thanks, I think i'll try a different approach on getting this scope mounted. You guys pretty much nailed the exact things i was thinking just was not sure.

I have them on my rifles that have high scopes. They work fine.
