Hey Folks,

Shot in the dark here but has anyone ever tried to put this Williams ramped dovetail front sight on a Henry rifle from the H024 series?

I have an H024-3855 on the way but I'm not thrilled with the screwed in ivory bead front sight, I'd like to have better customization of height to use with a Skinner peep.

My Big Boy Steels all have a dovetail cut into the barrel but Henry decided to do this series different for whatever reason so I'm looking for a solution.

This ramp looks like it may be short enough that the hole to screw in won't put the ramp past the muzzle but I'm not sure. Also I'm concerned about the radius of the ramp not matching well with the barrel.

Thanks for any experience, advice or input!

I tried it out after giving Williams a call and asking a few questions and the result is their shorty ramps definitely can be fitted to H024 series Henry's.

I ended up going with the 1/8" ramp which has it's screw hole just behind (breach end) of the dovetail and there's more than 1/4" from the front of the ramp before the end of the barrel. From the looks of it the taller heights put the screw hole below the dovetail so they would slightly shorten the sight radius but would still definitely be alright as far as ramp to muzzle relation.

Just dropping my findings in case anyone searches this in the future.

Also of note, the dovetail depth (top of ramp to bottom of dovetail) I found to be .09", the dovetail itself is 3/8" nominal but very tight and the amount of fitting I did to get it very close to the barrel diameter of a Henry 38-55 (.725") but not quite flush with the top of the barrel got my center line to dovetail bottom measurement of .4015". Might be handy for anyone looking to select a front sight height.

I'm going with .500" since that's the tallest Skinner has in the "guide" patridge blade sights for 1/4" width and going from there. My hope is I'll end up filing it down and not going for a taller one in the "true" patridge blade category.
