I have 2 series1 Classic Stainless 45s, and two older (12 yrs.) Wilson 47D 8 rnd mags, and both Kimbers wont lock the slide back using these mags, but any other mags work fine. Has anyone else found this in thier Kimbers? Thanks-

It's inherent with the Wilson 47's. The plastic follower wears at the slidestop notch until they stop working. My SOP was to call Wilson and have them replaced free under warranty whenever they started going tits-up, but I've heard that Wilson stopped doing that these days. No biggy to me though, as I've switched to the Tripp follower/spring kits. Their followers are made with a metal insert that contacts the slidestop and it doesn't wear over time.

I bought two Tripp 8 rounders, and they lock the slide back evry time. They did, however, seat in the pistol only after really slamming them home. I took out the magazine latch, honed the ramped area of it a little, and polished it with 320 grit paper, and the mags seat much easier, and smoother! Thanks Blackie! ;)

I just finished replacing all my 47Ds with Tripp Cobra Mags.

For some reason the 47Ds would not run in my Les Baer. I’d get an occasional nose down FTF. The Baer ran on Baer mags, Colt mags, Power Mags, and even old surplus GI mags. I thought I was the only one till I ran into a guy today at an IDPA match with another Baer that choked on Wilson’s.

I really, like the Tripp mags. Their well built, drop free, and I’ve now gone 3K through them without a hitch.

My series 1 kimber no longer has a kimber slide stop. I think the one in it is a colt. When I 1st got my gun years ago it wouldn't lock the slide back consistantly period. I tried another kimber slide stop and I still had the same problem. Put the colt slidestop in problem solved. Mark

I've switched from Wilson to ACT-MAG. Springs are stronger with a metal follower. In my hands these have out performed my Wilson mags. Just my $0.02.

I can't tell you how dissapionted I was with wilsons.
There 47D,s will not hold the slide back on any of my colts or kimbers.
I thought spending the extra money was going to get me a better mag.
Chip Mc. power mags is all I use now and they work fine and are cheaper
Wilson 10MM mags work horridly also and never ever lock the slide back on any of my colt 10mm's

Everybody is getting away from a very good design.

7 rounds!
The 7 round military magazines are, in my opinion, the best design for the 1911.
I have gone to stronger springs in my metalform 7 rounders, because the slide flies forward pretty friggin fast with a 24# recoil spring.
I use the flat, dimpled follower, and slide lock problems are all solved.
(When I got my Chamion, the slide lock issue was a nightmare.)

I bought two Tripp 8 round mags and they work flawlessly. They're well built, easy to clean, and all I'm going to buy from now on!
